Must-see in Yamaguchi
Mar 2020 • Solo
Located in Kozan Park, Rurikoji Temple is known for its 5 stories pagoda. But actually the temple itself is also very interesting. The graveyard of Mori Family belongs to this temple, and along with “uguisubari” paved way it is another must-see. Some people recommended the museum of this temple. I however don’t recommend it much unless you are particularly interested in the architecture of pagodas. The entrance for the temple is free.

Fabulous Five-tier Pagoda in fascinating Yamaguchi
Apr 2019
Yamaguchi is not really on the westerners' tourist trail in Japan, but if you have time the town and its attractions are well worth visiting. Take the Shin-kan-sen to Shin-Yamaguschi Station, change on to the link JR train to Yamaguchi itself, and then bus to the temple and pagoda. The beautiful park in which the fabulous pagoda is so exquisitely set is a perfect example of Japanese gardens and architecture. The pagoda is a 5-tier wonder, and the Rurikoji temple on the other side of the small lake from the pagoda is a classic example of Japanese Buddhist temples but much simpler than some of those you might see in, say, Kyoto. You need to experience the peace and purity of this place.

Yamaguchi was one of the Japanese cities which, in the 16th century, experienced the cultural and religious influence of Christian missionaries, led by St Francis Xavier. Despite later centuries of persecution, Christianity survived here and today there is a gorgeous white Catholic church dedicated to St Francis Xavier which is also well worth a visit. Walk along the pretty riverside which, in Spring, is lined with pink cherry-blossom.

資料館がとても良かったです/ The museum was great.
May 2018 • Couples
瑠璃光寺横の資料館には、日本全国の五重の塔の写真と模型が展示されていて、瑠璃光寺のもののみならず、五重の塔一般への理解を深めるのにとても役に立ちました。

There were pictures and models of every pagodas in Japan, which helped a lot to understand not only here's Rurikoin's pagoda but also in general what is a Japanese pagoda.

I don't think there're not many places where we can see Japanese pagodas at once. Actually it's rare and precious. Maybe you could enjoy to pick up the one you like the most among those pagodas with seeing pictures and models.

入場料は大人200円で、お守りなどを売っている売店でチケットを買えます。
小さな資料館で、さっと見て回るだけでも面白いのでぜひ立ち寄って見て欲しいです!

The ticket costs only 200JPY for an adult and it doesn't take time as it's a small museum. I'd love to many people would visit there.

Very nice temple to take photos and hike in a park near by
Apr 2018 • Couples
The temple is surrounded by a park with trails, bamboo trees and city view. When you face a shrine go to the right and up above the cemetery.

Scenic and tranquil
Mar 2017
This is one of our family's favorite spots in Yamaguchi Prefecture. In fact, we come here each March to take a family portrait in front of the pagoda and pond. The temple itself is lovely and staffed with incredibly friendly docents, many of whom speak excellent English. The gardens are exquisite, and we often see many incredible wading birds in the pond. Make sure to check out the adorable talismans, postcards, and souvenirs available in the temple shop. For those of you who enjoy collecting temple/station stamps and calligraphy, there are several options available - don't forget your stamp book!

The restrooms in the parking lot are very clean, and there are several nice souvenir and ice cream shops right next to the lot. If you're in the area on the correct days, the Yamaguchi Flea Market is only about 10 minutes away.

Free, so be a sport and buy some incense or something to support this bastion of extreme beauty. Pagoda is lit up until midnight.

Scenic! Beautiful in any season!
Mar 2016 • Family
We came here last autumn and came back for "hanami" or Cherry Blossom viewing. We loved our visit because you could really appreciate the beauty of the pagoda and sakura without the people obstructing the view. The children could also wander around but be careful of cars going in and out of the temple. All the volunteers are friendly and very helpful too!

This pagoda has an excellent view in any season!
