This shrine is associated with the Matsudaira clan, the lord of the domain, in Matsue Castle. Right next to it is Kounkaku, which is a local museum, so you should visit as a set. Incidentally, Ieyasu TOKUGAWA (Tosho-gu Shrine) has also been enshrined in this Matsue-jinja Shrine since the Meiji period.

I parked my car in the Otemae parking lot of Matsue Castle and entered the castle through the Otemon gate. As soon as he made his way towards the castle tower, he arrived at the place where the Ninomaru had stood. Matsue Shrine stood there.
It was a shrine with a shrine building that had a modest appearance but a refreshing impression. It is said that Naomasa, the first head of the Matsudaira family of Matsue Domain, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Matsudaira Harusato, the seventh lord of Matsue Domain, and Horio Yoshiharu, the founder of Matsue Kaifu, are enshrined here.

The shrine is within the castle walls and is fairly open for access with not too many stairs. There are others in town that seem bigger or fancier. If you are here, have a look.

In the grounds of Matsue-jo and next to Kounkaku, this shrine was probably first built about the same time (1611). It was very quiet and peaceful and in a lovely setting.

Not very distinctive from the shrines you see in every town, but convenient when you're visiting the castle. Drop in and check it out.

Located just before the entrance gate to Matsue castle you will find Matsue Shrine. Like many a great looking Shrine in a well-kept surrounding and definitely worth a (short) visit on your way to Matsue castle.
