The architecture of the museum is impressive. Just the building itself is a work of art. They've created a massive space for admiring art work. It's also an ideal location to view the spectacular sunset each day

With a prime position overlooking the lake this large modern building is itself quite impressive, but the art on display is less than exciting. Perhaps when they have special exhibitions it would be worth a visit, but their eclectic collection housed in five rooms on...More

I enjoyed Hokusai exhibition so much. Taking photograph was prohibited. First half of exhibition was ended, but the last half is just as good. Don't forget to go to observatory. Walking distance from JR station. It's along Lake shinji, afterwards you can stroll the trail...More

It is a great spot for sunset, you could the estimated sunset time on their website everyday, and the museum will only close 30 minutes after sunset, which is very thoughtful. There are also a lot of interesting installation arts around the lake side, which...More

I wouldn't make a special trip here for just the museum, but it is a great bonus to a nice walk around the area. It is extremely convenient to access and has many interesting pieces of art in and around it. Don't miss out on...More

Shimane Art Museum has a wonderful building and some special Art and somehow it lacks coherence. Why this collection is shown, we couldn't fathom. It's free, that's a bonus.

The outdoor sculptures are playful and well placed to complement the stunning view. The indoor galleries have a lovely variety of artworks, ceramics and photography in a modern building. A most enjoyable afternoon.

A beautiful building, by the lake, good for sunset visits. The museum has a great collection, but only a small amount is on show at any time, so rather a matter of luck. A lot of local work too, some indifferent, some stupendously good.
