Very nice area with free footbaths
Nov 2019
I only spent an hour in this area, but it was beautiful, with the river running through the area and many old-style buildings. I visited the two free footbaths, which I really enjoyed. This area also has alot of hotels and onsens, but I didn't visit them.

An ancient onsen with mixed hot bath. Separate changing room for men to change to paper shorts n women to paper full dress swimsuit! Hot spring water at source to onsen is 72degreesC! It’s protected by metal bars but water cools to about 38 degrees generally! There is also option for male n female only onsen in another part of onsen. The gardens are very pretty n worth a stroll! Onsen water certified to have benefits to skin!

Old small town
Oct 2019 • Solo
It’s not too commercialized small town. Quality of hot spring is very nice. Skin is very soft and stay warm after dipping onsen for a while. Nice to walk around with yukata and geta make sure bring small towel for foot spring along the river.

onsen street
Oct 2019
Choose Tamatsukuri because my fd recommendations. Almost an hour driving from Izumo-Shi.

A bit disappointed as it’s just a rather small area with many hotels. I walked the area in the evening and morning. Took less than 20 mins to walk around in whole area.
There’re foot onsens next to the river.

Their onsen is good for skin. Bought famous soap which made by onsen water as souvenirs.

Ashiyu
Mar 2019 • Solo
I expected bigger crowd, but due to the weather, I was only one using ashiyu (foot only soaking tub ). It was covered facility so I even enjoyed watching rain.

Historical Onsen
Nov 2017 • Solo
Honestly, I am not a big fan of onsen, but this onsen is very historical as well as provides a good walking courses. Therefore I recommend this onsen to the people who are not only interested in Onsen but also interested in the view around it. The walking courses around the Onsen is actually very nice, so you can relax even after Onsen. Also tourists can see the historical statues around the Onsen area, which makes the walking more enjoyable. This place is a bit far to walk from the central city, so I recommend to take a taxi.

Quaint onsen town
Apr 2017 • Friends
A quaint onsen town with two shrines and a small onsen street with shops. Plenty of onsen roykans you can choose from! Lots of sakura trees near the "river" in the middle of the street.

A romantic adventure
Dec 2016 • Solo
The area around the Tamatsukuri Onsen is full of little spots where you can experience refreshing foot spas as well as various experiences such as feeding Koi carps or passing a little bridge with your loved ones. The Onsen in this area are supposed to give you a smooth and beautiful skin. It is especially a popular place for women and couples. Very idyllic. I really enjoyed it!

Tamatukuri Hot Springs Resort
Apr 2016 • Family
A short distance away from downtown Matsue (about 25 minutes by car) is an old hot spring resort of Tamatukuri along the Tamayu River. Ever since the Heian Period (794 – 1185), the area has been known as one of the best hot spring resorts in today’s western Japan.

There are less than twenty hot spring ryokan (Japanese-style inn) in Tamatsukuri and it has no shopping or entertainment district to walk around. You are expected to enjoy the hot springs at your ryokan and appreciate the surrounding natural environment along the Tamayu River.

“Tamatsukuri” means “making maga-tama.” The term “maga-tama” means “curved bead” or “C-shaped bead.” It is made of jade or agate and was considered very sacred in ancient Japan. Tamatsukuri was probably one of the manufacturing centres of maga-tama in ancient Japan.
