Views of the sunset easy to get, popular with locals and Western tourists

One of the best landscapes in Japan. A really good taste of the Japanese relaxation. Go and see the sunset and if you can try the feet onsen at shinjiko station

The Shinjiko lake is a large lake. It is suggested to take a walk and watch sunset along the lake shore when the sky is clear. We arrived in a cloudy day. The sun shows occasionally. We parked in the Shimane museum, which is free for the first 3 hours. There's a undercut that lead to the lake shore. There... More

Well.... It was OK as boat cruises go. Basically the staff piloted the boat and kindly pressed the play button to the shouty recording playing back to is assorted bumpf about what we were looking at. Thankfully the beautiful scenery carried the day.

Our innkeeper told us to go the minute we arrived to our ryokan. He showed us how to get there and off we went for the sunset. Unfortunately, the cloud layer was minimal, so we didn't get much of a cloud lined sunset, but it was pretty nonetheless and not that busy. Go near the museum for the best viewing.

Recommend taking a sunset cruise on the lake. It is a gentle easy cruise that takes you far enough out in the lake to watch the sunset. If it is a little cool that is not a problem because the boat has inside viewing. The cruise also gives the opportunity for other photo ops.

This lake is a dominent feature of Matsue and helps make this a very pretty city. It is good to walk around. We particularly enjoyed walking across the main bridges. We missed the special sunsets because of clouds but pictures are amazing. The Lakemont bus takes you to the points of interest aground the lake. It provides a great backdrop... More

This is a huge lake in the middle of Matsue city. Even being inside the city, it's water is very clean and in some points, clear. People go there to fish and in sunny days, it's impossible not to see the amazing sunset.

The local tourist information promotes this sea as the sea of love. I am not sure if I share this point of view, but I agree that it is a wonderful sight to see the lake painted in red during sun-set.

Great at sunset. Really magnificent colors from gold to orange reflecting on the lake waters. Nice atmosphere at sunset (when clear weather), when many photogtraphs amateurs install their gear to catch the best shot. Pleasant footpath for a relaxed walk.

We visited this lake on our way to Matsue castle. This lake was so beautiful with some sculptures inside. There is also a beautiful island.
