scenic bus ride to attactions
Sep 2019
I paid 500¥ for an all day pass on the Matsue Circular Lakeline Bus. The pass can also be bought from a kiosk inside the station. As the name implies this runs on a ‘circular’ route (takes approximately 50 minutes) every 20 minutes from 8.40am and stops at all the major attractions in the city. The buses (mainly red old fashioned looking) are clearly designated and leave from bus stop 7 outside the JR Matsue station. I got a timetable and map in English from the excellent Tourist Information Centre outside the station. The buses provided information in English about each stop on a screen behind the driver. They only travel in one direction (you always have to complete the loop) so check the timetable to see if it is time efficient depending on the stops you intend to make.

Convenient way to visit touristic locations
Aug 2019
This quite recognizable red bus makes continuous fixed tracks (loops) through town, stopping at almost every touristic site in town. However if you get there within a reasonable timeframe depends of course where your destination is on the loop.
Nevertheless it remains a very convenient option to see the sights in Matsue. Personally I preferred to walk. Matsue is not that big that you cannot do this. For instance Matsue Castle is a 30 minutes’ walk from Matsue JR station.

At the Matsue Tourist Information Center just outside JR station they can provide you with everything you want to know about this bus service.

A great way for a quick overview of Matsue

Get the all-day pass for 500-yen (high-suggested) or get on/off @ 200-yen each time. This bus makes a circuit around the major attractions of Matsue in under an hour so is a great way to acquaint yourselves with the layout of the city. There are about 30 stops in this loop. Very convenient since there are buses coming by every 20 minutes.

Great Little city bus

It's a great little bus to tour the city with. Very cheap for all day use. Very easy to get in and out.
