My visit to San'in.. the scene of Shinji lake..
Nov 2019 • Family
When I reached matsue, I've seen a couple of swans at Lake Shinji, it was amazing.
By the end of the day, there were many ducks there, it was really beautiful to see them in large numbers... The lake is so close to Izumo airport, I guess the passengers might find it so cool.

A Beautiful Lake, Famous for the sunset view
Oct 2019
Actually, I did not check the places of attractions that much for Matsue, because my plan is only to stop by for a nite, before moving to Hagi. ANd Matsue castle was the actual target. Because the I have enough time after Matsue castle, I looked at the map given by the local tourist information counter, and hence I walk towards Lake Shinji, and it happened that it was about sunset time, hence I sit there patiently with many professional photographers waiting to take the famous sunset pictures. But weather was not very good (cloudy), hence there was sunset pictures. But sitting at the side of the lake, was very nice, calm and breathtaking. It was a good visit to lake Shinji. And the museum was another attraction, if you have the time to spend.

Unforgettable sunset view
Oct 2019
One of the best sunset views that we have ever seen. This huge lake, with a small island in the middle, several canoes passing way, and distant mountains as the background, sets up a perfect stage to watch this unforgettable scenery!

Huge lake on the western side of Matsue
Aug 2019
Immense lake on the western side of Matsue. Very popular for water-sport activities of course.

When I was there I was lucky enough to witness the yearly Hanabi (fireworks festival). Already in the morning local people were claiming their spot on the borders of the lake. When it was becoming dark the place went crazy. Huge amounts of people, also from the surrounding towns, flocked in. The Shinjiko Ohashi bridge was completely blocked off for traffic and open for pedestrians. For the fireworks two large pontoons were put on the lake from which a 60 minutes fireworks display was presented. Great show and a great way to end my visit to Matsue.

An unforgettable sunset spot
Nov 2018 • Friends
Lake Shinji sunset spot near the small island (嫁ヶ島) is something you should not miss in Matsue.

The best place to park your car is the Shimane Art Museum’s free parking lot, which is at the opposite side of the road. Walking from there to the sunset spot is less than 10 minutes.

I initially plan to set the camera to have the two standing Buddha in the middle, small island on the left and the sunset on the right. I then realize at this time of year, in November, the sun is already moved to a different position; it sits on top of the small island disregard where you stand. The picture that I was dreaming would only be possible in spring, probably visitors by then could give us an update to confirm this.

There is always a big crowd of visitors waiting for you at this place, the beautiful sunset will never disappoint you.

Amazing sunset spot!
Nov 2017 • Solo
It's definitely the best spot to see a mesmerising sunset in Matsue. Note that you can also book a boat trip on the lake.

Beautiful lake

From Matsue New Urban Hotel you'll have a great view on the lake. Watch fishermen do the line catching and enjoy the view on the bridges across the river.

Zen experience
Apr 2017 • Couples
We loved this lake...paired with distant mountains your views are spectacular. In the early morning the water can be so calm and appear as glass....but when the winds come in, the waters can resemble the ocean with powerful waves...
We walked to it every morning for a relaxing meditative experience.
