We came to Okayama for the day and combined it with a visit to Kurashiki which I highly recommend. While trying to visit Okayama Castle and Korakuen Garden, we took the tram from the Okayama Train Station to ease up on all the walking. One of the cars we got in was named Tama, a cat, and it was super cute. Even the inside was decorated with her likeness. The ride costs 100 yen per person and it is a cheap and easy way to move around Okayama. And who knows, you might end up on a super cute tram.

This may have been because of the time of day, but both the Higashiyama Line and the Seikibashi Line were empty.
Since many of the carriages are narrow, it can be difficult to move around inside the train when it is crowded, but as long as the train is empty it doesn't take long to get on and off, and trains tend to arrive and depart slightly early.
Although the 100 yen fare zone had increased to 120 yen, the 140 yen zone remained the same, so I was able to use the train without hesitation even for short distances. Incidentally, due to a shortage of drivers, there were ads on TV and other media advertising for drivers.

This Okayama Electric Tramway served our needs well. for Y100 we could ride from Okayama Station to our hotel (Koraku) or Okayama Castle & Korakuen Gardens. The tram is easy to use. Enter at the back, take a ticket or touch your IC card (PASMO & SUICA both worked), exit at the front and deposit your ticket with correct change (Y100 or Y140 depending on the stop) or touch your IC card at front.
There are many different types of trams from the modern Momo, the vintage Kuro, to the cute Tama Cat (complete with ears on the tram and tama cats painted on the interior). If you want to know what Trams are coming, the Momo Navi app will show you where they are.
The drivers were super helpful and even brought my suitcase down the steps for me.

The Okayama Tramway is a must for tourists on hot or rainy days. It might not look like much, but the trek from Okayama Station to Okayama Castle and adjacent river/gardens can be difficult when the weather is not ideal. You can save yourself the suffering by using the tram. It only cost 100ÂĄ to ride to these sites. Happy riding!

The tram system in Okayama was very efficient and easy to use by visitors. It covered most of the tourists spots around and value for money as well. Central city fare of Yen $100 and longer rides at Yen $140 were really acceptable.

Its quite easy to use, with displays telling you when the next tram will come. You board from the back and exit from the front. If you have an ICOCA card, you can use that, but remember to touch your card to the card reader when you board and exit.

After spending some days in Tokyo you find yourself in the past with this lovely tramway, really a good way to move. Not expensive, fast and really a jump in the past.

The castle and gardens are not a huge walk from Okyama Station but the tramway makes it an easier trip and there is the bonus of travelling on yet another of Japan's local transport systems. These trams are directed with cute motifs and a definite tick on your collection of quirky transfers in this fantastic country.

We bought the day pass and used it to get back and forth to the castle and gardens from our hotel near the train station. There are lots of trolleys including some really old nostalgic ones, along with some sleek modern ones. Hardly ever had to wait more than a few minutes to get one and the stops were nicely placed to get to the places you'd want to go.

I love this tram system. The train itself is very old, but if u r lucky, u ll come across the Tama special version of the tram.
¥100 for shorter rides; ¥140 for longer rides. National transport IC Card ❨eg SUICA, ICOCA, TOICA❩ accepted. Just touch in when u r getting on and touch out when getting off. If paying by cash, take a numbered ticket when getting on and drop your coins and numbered ticket when getting off.
