Okayama Prefectural Museum is located in front of the main gate of Okayama Korakuen. I entered with a shared ticket with Korakuen. There are exhibition rooms 1 and 2 on the 1st floor, and exhibition rooms 3 and 4 on the 2nd floor. The exhibits seem to change frequently. When I entered the museum, the first exhibition room displayed archaeological materials excavated in Okayama prefecture from the ancient Kibi world, the second exhibition room displayed ancient lifestyles and tools, and the third exhibition room displayed Bizen ware and Akabane swords. Exhibition Room 4 was an exhibition of temple treasures from Jojuji Temple. I'm glad that I was able to take all the photos because I forget everything from my memory.

It is about a 15-minute walk from the castle town tram stop. It is opposite the entrance to Korakuen.
Opened in 1971. Admission is 250 yen. The building is a two-story building with two exhibition rooms on the first and second floors. The first floor exhibition room is an ordinary exhibition, and displays archaeological materials such as earthenware excavated in Okayama Prefecture, materials related to the Ikeda clan, and folk materials such as agricultural tools, fishing tools, and masked joruri. In the second floor exhibition room, special exhibitions are held, and when visiting the museum, the theme exhibition "Pushing at the Museum!" was open.

I came with a study-buddy for a special Nichiren exhibition that displayed many excellent Buddhist artworks. What a pity that the arrangement was poor and without a concept, the items just put into the showcases without a story, a narrative...
This is probably the fault of the organizer and not of the museum and it must be said that the location is idillic with a park near the river.

I visited this museum because of the Bizen pottery collection. I enjoyed seeing this, and also the sword collection, as I hadn't been aware that Okayama was also famous for swords. It was a bit frustrating that so little information in the museum was in English. I used Google Translate to read the labels, which had one attendant concerned that I was taking photos or videos (both forbidden), until she saw that I was trying to read the labels. One exhibit allows you to pick up a replica sword to understand how heavy these were, and that was fun.

Entry to this museum is a small extra amount on top of entry to Korakuen which is right next door so, despite the frustrations, it was worthwhile.

Considering it was a prefectural museum, it was a small in size and did not offer a lot exhibition. It was kind of boring.

I would recommend to skip this.

Very small overpriced museum. The only things of interest when we were there were some beautiful swords, including a 13kg dai katana.
