大原美術館児島虎次郎記念館は、倉敷美観地区にあるアイビースクエアの一角にあります。記念館と小さな美術館です。児島虎次郎氏が収集したコレクションが展示されています。大原美術館もこちらの美術館も、ゆっくり時間を確保してみた方が良いですね。

大原美術館には棟方志功や河井寛次郎らゆかりの深い作家の特設室が設けてあるが、その中でも児島虎次郎関連の部屋は広い。彼の作品だけでなく、彼が収集した古代オリエントの遺物などを集めて展示したのが、この記念館だ。広さのあまりか、倉敷アイビースクエアの中に美術館の分館として設けてある。

小島虎次郎の絵にはさして興味を感じてはいなかったが目的の市の美術館が開いておらず、大原コレクションの収集に貢献したその功績にと思い出向いた。ところがここも彼の美術館2020年開館のためか開いていなかった。結果としてこの町で観覧できたのは大原美術館だけだった。
