鞆の浦の商人

　山門、本殿ともに威容を構えており、こじんまりとした寺院が多い鞆の浦の中では屈指の門構えだ。さらにはご本尊の阿弥陀仏、鞆の浦塔、梵鐘など寺宝も多い。寺を支えた商人たちの羽振りの良さがしのばれる。寺勢は江戸時代中期に隆盛を迎えたというが、鞆の浦が最も栄えた時期と重なるのだろうか。

鞆の大仏

鞆の浦の寺社が集中している通りにありました。医王寺に上がっていく坂道の近くになります。靴を脱いで、本堂にあがると大きなご本尊がいらっしゃいました。鞆の大仏と呼ばれているそうです。じっくりお参りし、御朱印もいただきました。

本尊「鞆の大佛」

山門には「鞆の浦古寺めぐり」の幟がはためいていました。山門自体は木柵で閉じられていたものの通用口はオープンされ境内の出入りは自由となっていました。境内に進むと庭園風に整えられており正面に本堂が配されていました。
因みに同寺の本尊は「鞆の大佛」と呼ばれているそうでした。

鞆港バス停から徒歩10分ほど。
浄土宗の寺院。本尊は阿弥陀如来。境内の植栽はきれいに整えられている。本堂内に置かれた由緒書によると「1565年に建立。施主は福島正則の家老・大崎玄蕃」となっているが、大崎玄蕃(大崎長行)の生誕は1560年なので5歳で施主になったことになり違和感がある。大崎玄蕃が鞆城に来たのは1601年。当寺が現在地に移転したのは1607年なので、施主になったのはこの時なのであろう。本堂内には、「鞆の大仏」と呼ばれる高さ約2.6mの本尊・阿弥陀如来(1693年造立)がどっしりと座している。

「鞆の津塔」と呼ばれる江戸時代前期の石塔が12基並んでいます

　鞆の浦の港から古い町並みを北の方に向かうと、西側にある後山という山のふもとの道路沿いに、いくつものお寺や神社が建ち並んでいました。鞆の浦の寺町なんでしょうか。その寺町の一番港側にあったお寺が、阿弥陀寺です。
　道路に面して、立派な山門が建っています。山門から境内に入ると、右側に石塔が並んでいました。「鞆の津塔」と呼ばれるこの石塔は、江戸時代のもので、数えてみると12基並んでいました。この石塔は古い鞆の浦独自のお墓なんです。

立派な山門と鞆の津塔

　鞆の浦の西側の山の中腹に建つ医王寺から坂を下っていき、坂の下を左に曲がると、お寺がいくつも続いていました。その最初にあったのが、阿弥陀寺です。
　1565年に創建されたというこの阿弥陀寺は、鞆の浦の人たちからは「あみだいじ」と呼ばれ親しまれているそうです。立派な山門から境内に入ると、右の方に、「鞆の津塔」と呼ばれる江戸時代前期の石塔が12基並んでいました。これは、鞆の浦独特のお墓なんだそうですよ。

素晴らしい大仏を拝めます

鞆の浦にあるお寺の一つで、室町時代に創建されたお寺です。立派な山門をくぐると、その先に大きな阿弥陀堂があり、鞆の大仏といわれる阿弥陀如来が安置されています。境内はきれいに整備されており、樹木や石の造詣が素晴らしいです。また、梵鐘は鞆に残る二つのうちの一つということです。

大仏が鎮座

鞆の浦でいくつかまわったお寺と神社のうちの一つです。500年近い歴史のあるお寺で山門も本堂も立派なものでした。本殿を外からみて帰ろうとすると「中に大仏さまがあります」というようなことが書かれてあり、本堂にはいってみると、たしかに本尊が大仏で驚きました。鞆の浦が経済を示すものも一つかなと思いました。

立派な山門と本堂

鞆の浦は、山裾に沿って寺院がずらっと並び、町の大きさのわりに寺院が多いような気がしますが、その中でもこのお寺は山門、本堂とも立派で規模の大きいものでした。港からも近く参拝もしやすいお寺です。

浄土宗の阿弥陀寺、大きなご本尊と対面。

鞆小学校の南東方向に位置し、常夜燈から歩いても数分と近いところに阿弥陀寺がありました。最初に驚いたのは、高さもあって屋根も大きく堂々とした山門でした。境内に入って正面にある本堂への階段には上がって入ってもよいとの案内があり、入堂して畳敷きの先に進むととても大きく立派なご本尊がありました。本堂の規模からすると、その大きさは際立っています。ご本尊は阿弥陀仏ですから浄土宗になりますが、その「丈六阿彌陀如来坐像」は「鞆の大仏」といわれるている通りのものでした。すっきりとした端正なお顔で、お念仏を唱えれば極楽浄土に渡れそうに感じさせる力があるようですから、多分多くの信者が集まったのでしょう。境内には財力のある鞆商人が寄進した「鞆の津塔」と呼ばれる石塔が多数あり、これは五輪塔と宝篋印塔（ほうきょういんとう）を合わせた鞆独特のものだそうです。鞆の浦の古刹めぐりは、フランスやイタリアの旧市街にたくさんある教会や修道院を巡るのと同じように楽しいものでした。
