This is a very quiet and peaceful place. Not far from JR station. It is worth coming, not a waste of time.

I spent in Toyama only one evening, so I visited castle grounds in the dark and I highly recommend it. It looks very beautiful in the night lights, especially from the lake side. The castle is tiny, but it looks very authentic and is a good choice for a walk in Toyama.

The castle is a concrete rebuild, 4 storey, but much to see inside the museum. A small garden is right beside the main keep. Just 10 minutes walk from the JR station, so if you visit Toyama, not bad to spare half an hour for the castle.

A very short walk from the station and you're in the surroundings of a majestic castle. Peaceful, stunning grounds in a city that is also very quiet. One wonders.

Castle and gardens make for a pleasant and peaceful visit. Well maintained and quiet. Craft museum on the grounds.

Toyamajou was built in 1543 by Nagamoto Jimbo (yes, Jimbo), In 1568 he was ousted after the Uesgai Clan attacked the castle. Takeda Shingen, rival to Uesugi Kenshin, requested the religious confederate band Ikko-ikki attack the castle to push the Uesugi out of Etchuu Province. Ikko-ikki took the castle in 1572 but Uesugi Kenshin took it back the following year.... More

Only visited outside the castle, the grounds are beautiful though and if you walk towards the river you can take a thirty minute boat ride which is well worth the money, although explanations are all in Japanese. On a beautiful day it is really a lovely trip.

This isn't an original castle, this castle has been completely rebuilt. The castle is really pretty and Is great location in Toyama to take photos. We didn't go inside, I just took photos of the beautiful outside and I came back at night to get night shots. The castle is an easy 15 minute walk from the Toyama station or... More

Like most castles in Japan, this is a modern reconstruction. It houses a museum about the history of the castle, but very little is in English although some explanation is available in the English pamphlet. In April, there are good views with cherry blossoms, but if you want to see an impressive castle I suggest going to Himeji.
