The ropeway takes you up the mountain to the Kunozan Toshogu Shrine. It is worth the trip on the ropeway alone to see the vistas. At the top if you don't want to tour the Shrine grounds there is a snack stand and viewpoints to...More

Interesting to see the old gondola cars; somewhat expensive for the short ride; operator spoke Japanese only. However, we did get some great photos of the coastline.

In our opinion unless you are using the ropeway to access the Kunozan Toshogu Shrine it is not much of a stand alone attraction. It is very expensive for a short ride with limited views and scenery. A full gondola car holds over 30 people...More

I do feel the Nihondaira Ropeway was expensive considering the distance travelled and the view. If you do want to visit Kunozan Toshogu Shrine then it'll be worth it if you don't want to climb all the way up. However, don't expect any Mt Fuji...More

Everything about this ropeway and Nihondaira was super misleading in my opinion. First of all, one thing that I didn't realize is that this ropeway only takes you to the shrine and that's it. If you hike up towards Nihondaira from the port area, then...More

This is the only way to go visit the Toshogu Shrine. The views from the cable car are pretty impressive, you can see the shoreline & bay. The Nihondaira Park that is right by the Ropeway is a terrific spot to see Mt. Fuji except...More

We took the ropeway route to the shrine - well worth it for the amazing views across the bay. If weather cooperates you will see Mt. Fuji. We could just make it out above the clouds

I did an arranged bus tour from the ship which is the best way to go. A taxi would probably be very expensive. I don't recall seeing many taxis at the cable car station so a taxi would need to wait for you and the trip on... More

I would like to stop and see the area on the way to Kyoto. I see the Shinkansen stops at Shizuoka station. I'm assuming there will be lockers to store luggage just like most stations and perhaps a TI booth to get directions? I've read there is a bus that will take you to Nihondaira Ropeway. Does anyone know how often this leaves the station? It would be a weekday morning. How much time should I set aside roundtrip,4 hrs? Any suggestions, tips would be appreciated for those who have done this...More

Thanks for the helpful info. Do I need to purchase a bus ticket prior to boarding or can I use suica type card? On a prev visit to Japan, I really enjoyed the Nikko Toshugu shrine. I figured this would be a nice treat and way to break up the journey to Kyoto. I hope Fuji will be visible!

Hi Can anyone please tell me if there is a taxi rank or whether there are often taxis at the start of the Nihondaira ropeway? I want to take a taxi with 2 other people from Shimizu port to take the ropeway and see the Toshugo Temple, but want to make sure we are not stuck there waiting for a taxi as we have to back at the ship by a certain time. Can you book a return taxi and ask the driver to meet us at the ropeway at a certain time? I have searched many sites but can’t seem to find...More
