- Marina P66 contributionsA relaxing way to spend a morningThere's a bus that goes right there, all of the signs have multiple languages, and the view from the top is stunning. It's also several degrees cooler on top of the mountain, so dress accordingly. The only reason it's not five stars is that there are only intermittent patches of railing on the top, leaving nothing between you and plunging down the mountain. Considering how much of a tourist area this is, and how many small children and dogs there were, I was a little surprised. Several of the food options appear to have been killed off by recent circumstances.Written March 11, 2022
- arara2139Osaka, Japan148 contributionsGreatIf you have time while traveling to Izu-kogen, I'd recommend you to see this mountain! We came there by bus, it took is around 40 minutes from Ito station. The mountain has a lift that will deliver you to the top. You can spend time there by walking around the top of the mountain, which takes 20 minutes. You can have drinks and meal there as well.Traveled with friendsWritten July 25, 2021

From Izukogen JR station, take public bus #1 to Mt Omuro. It is about a 20 mins ride. You get a ticket from the bus, and on alighting, you pay to the bus conductor.
I ended up in this area because I was chasing hanami & didn't have time to return late March or early April. The tourist office recommended me to see Mt Omuro. The cherry blosooms were all over at the station of Izukogen station. Beautiful!!
Hot tip:
The local bus travel in very pricey!!
If you plan to tour around the area, buy the day pass at JPY1000 - it's worth every dime. You don't have to juggle with coins and if you get lost like me, you can easily hop onto another bus in the area. I didn't get the pass & ended up paying a lot more than JPY1000.
I took the roundtrip ski-ride to the top for JPY500. It's worth it. While I was not really impressed with the mountain (as well travelled as i am), I enjoyed the view of the Sagami-Nada sea and the expanse of the valley.
I took the walk around the well-paved circular path on the mountain top, albeit the strong chilly wind. Please come properly dressed.
The air was fresh & and view was spectacular. Mostly all, I overcome my fear of that ski-lift and heard church bells ringing across the valley!
Going back, I took the wrong bus & ended at at Ito (instead of Izukogen).
It was an adventure.

Situated in Ito Japan, this is a gem hidden whereby not so crowded with visitors. We had enjoyable day at the top and walking around the ring of the valconoes. Morning would be the best time to visit to avoid the hot sun in the month of May.

The weather was pretty overcast, and it was a lot colder at the top than at the bottom of the mountain (obviously), and my ears didn't pop (not that I'm blaming the mountain for that!) but still, it was fairly enjoyable and worth having a walk around the crater.
My dad had brought some binoculars with him. Good idea!

I went with a British friends and her children. We had a great time going up the lift and walking around the rim of the volcano. The kids were so excited to see the inside of a dormant volcano. The view from the top was gorgeous. We could see the ocean as well as Mt. Fuji. My friend said it was the most wonderful trip she had experienced in Japan.

Mount Omuro is an extinct Vulcano and covered in green. You can get there by public transportation or like we did by e-bike. For busses check the schedule, they mostly come a bit late in Japan bit never too early and also not that frequently.
When coming by bike even with an e-bike could be exhausting.
Up to the mountain you can take the lift for a normal price. Up you can take a walk all around and try archery in the center.
We've been there at a rather cloudy day but the view was really great.
On top you can dine as well.

Beautiful view from the top. Going up the chair lift was a blast for those not afraid of heights. Took us about 20minutes to walk around the mountain. Know the bus schedule if you took public transportation, since bus runs very infrequently. You can also rent an electric bicycle from the train station and get there. Not much to do but walk around the top.

When you Visit Izu then trip is incomplete until you climb Mt Omuro. It has almost same shape has Mt Fuji which make its more interesting. There is ropeway to climb till top of mountain. View from top is very nice specially in Spring time when you have Green Vally all over the place. There is Archery Station at the top and you could enjoy that too. When you reach top make sure you hold your cap and scarf tightly because its way to windy. Not to mention keep close watch on kids.
There are Souvenirs and food court at the base. So have good shopping and food. Have a nice trip. Cheers

As we approached the base of Mt Omuro, we noticed that the chairlifts were not moving. When we got out of our car, we saw a huge sign in Japanese which said that the facility was closed for maintenance for a week before re-opening on December 15 (when the strawberry season starts). Another reason why you should not come to Shizuoka before the start of the strawberry season. Looking at the information boards, we knew we have missed something impressive up the topic. So maybe next time....

Taking the chairlift to the top of the Mt. Omuro, nice and easy walking path with ocean by the side and mountains in the other side, It gives panoramic fantastic view, 360° of Izu Peninsula. We went on a sunny day and lucky to view Mt. Fuji in front of us half of the circling path, even clearly saw Izukogen's cherry blossom ave under the hill, town of Izukogen, the view far as to Ito city, small Mt. Omuro, Izu 7 islands etc.

Hello. Whats the fastest way to get to Mount Omuro? I will most probably be at Ito station from Yokohama. Or is there another train station near Mount Omuro that I can take to and then walk to Mount Omuro? Thanks!

Close to Ito station is the Iteoki bus station from there you can go by bus to Shaboten bus stop. Approximate 40 minutes.
For walking if you up to it might be best from Jōgasaki - Kaigan Station

I like climbing mountains on foot. In the past I have climbed Omuroyama twice on foot. Last time I came (in 2014), I was informed that the mountain cannot be climbed on foot any more (it took me about 20 minutes each time). I understand that the grass on the slopes is burnt each year in February, I think, for a major fire festival. And therefore the mountain must not be climbed. One could make stone steps in order to protect the vegetation. So, apart from business considerations are there any other true reasons? Komuroyama has several trails up the summit, but Omuroyama has certainly the more perfect cone. I enjoyed the walkway around the crater rim. As for the views I once had a perfect view of Fuji-san, but it was already pretty dark and I had no camera with me, the second time clouds blocked the view.

I'm not aware of any reasons other than the one you state. However, your suggestion to install stone steps seems to me a good one. Why not suggest that?
