Cactus Park (Dec-2016) Wonderful 2 nights stay at Atagawa. Visited Cactus Park where capybaras take onsen can be viewed up close. There are feeding n touching of capybaras at Capybaras Rainbow Square, on the other side of the park, from the onsen spot. There are Llama, Mara, kangaroos, birds n monkeys. There is a boat ride (additional charge) in the... More

It is a bit far to go but for a large park where all the animals can move freely with the guests around - small kids and even my teenagers loved the experience. Tips: - Japanese name seems different (Izu Cactus Park or 伊豆シャボテン公園) - Get online discount coupon for admission (up to 400 yen discount per person) - 200... More

We arrived around 3pm. It was 2300yen per person. Junior high and older are considered adults. The discounted rate of 2,000yen per person doesn't start till 5pm. We really just wanted to see the capybaras. So of course, it didn't seem worth it. If your family plans to spend the day, eating there and enjoying the evening, then yes, by... More

I went with my cousin (both mid-20s) and we admit our main purpose for the visit were to see capybaras. Little did we know that there would be so many cute animals walking around, like peacocks, kangaroos, ducks, parrots, monkeys, and many more. There were many small children there as well, so I think this park is also perfect for... More

The reason why we are in Izu even! It's to see the capybaras upfront & pet them! Which we did!! The family of 4 in the large enclosure are perfectly used to being manhandled by humans. There was a capybara onsen somewhere else but there was only 1 guy sitting in there & you couldn't get near him. There were... More

This park is in rural area so it might be better to refer back to the Japanese name "伊豆シャボテン公園" while you are searching around. We went there mainly because of their "Capybara in Onsen" advertisements, but I do find that there were lots more things interesting inside. The zoo tries to let people keep in touch with most animals as... More

While in Chizuoka, be sure to go to the Izu area and make a stop at Shaboten Koen which is a beautiful park with a lot of interesting animals ( kangaroos, monkeys, different species of birds, turtles and much more). All of this in a beautiful and well maintained setting. You can even assist to live animal performances throughout the... More

It is not typical kind of zoo... Some birds such as a peacock are hanging around. And you can take a photo with a big parrot. a ticket is a bit expensive, but it was satisfactory for my family.

My favorite "zoo" at Izu. If you visit Shaboten park, you would see capybaras enjoy bathing at hot spring. Cactus were brought from Mexico. There are some monuments of Mexico and you might hear Mexican music. You can go to Shaboten park on one day trip from Yokohama. If you purchase ticket at tourist center near Ito station, you will... Not worth going unless you like cacti. There are a few sorry looking animals dotted around the park and a short animal show featuring a monkey and a dog. For cactus fans there is a green house full of them and also a chance to buy some if it takes your fancy. Overall maybe worth a visit for a few... More
