I'm not sure what is so exciting about this bridge. There are far better examples of concrete construction in many other cities. However, it does give easy access to Furu-machi (Old Town).

Apparently one of the city's top attractions. It's worth a look and a walk across if you're in Niigata. There's a plaque on the city-centre side with some quite interesting information, notably that the river itself used to be 3 times wider till it was re-engineered back when this bridge was built.

Best bridge to use when staying at the Hotel Okura to get across the river to the Shopping mall and restaurants. Large pedestrian walkway and viewing into the river.

I look down on this 4-lane bridge from my hotel in Niigata and it appears to be a basic river crossing. When I went for a closer inspection, I saw no special ornamentation or anything that would make this approximately 1,007-foot-long, 72-foot-wide span a must-see attraction in the city. It does have six arches underneath, which give a bit of... More

We stayed 2 days in Niigata as we were interested to visit a Japanese small and not too touristic city. If you want to go to old city from train station, you need to go thought Bandai bridge. You can stop and have a look at this old bridge. Night scenery is beautiful.

Great example of early twentieth century concrete bridge building. Third bridge built in this site and concrete was an interesting choice of construction material given the large role earthquakes have played in defining the rivers course.

A bridge, so what? The largest river in Japan, so what? I did not get the historical background, maybe I miss something?

It's a sign of the Niigata city, but I can't understand why... It has a history, of course. But this place will be interesting for you only if you are really interested in Niigata history and it means something for you. Not attractive at all.

The bridge itself looks quite ordinary if you don't know the history behind it. Though on the riverside there is a nice place to sit down on the grace and enjoy the view. Would recommend for those who love reading or simply chilling under the sun!
