We had no idea this place was even here, but we were very excited to visit and gather information. The insdie is beautiful with great flora and fauna information of the area. The folks at the desk will provide you with accurate information and directions to the area!

There is an electronic pen that gives that sounds of different birds where you bring it to the pictures. Very interesting even for adults. You can buy one home with a picture book as a souvenir. You must visit the camp site beside the visitor centre. It definitely has the most stunning view.

The Visitor Center is located in a beautiful building and offers information about the flora and fauna of the area. There's also a small exhibition with gorgeous pictures and a gift shop.

There is no doubt that the all-wood building with high ceilings is attractive, providing a pleasant experience for visitors. As my fellow reviewers have noted, there is a display of images with inspiring commentary which fills a room. There are other visual displays overviewing some of the plants in the area and the topography of the region. The gift shop is fairly extensive, offering a variety of quality products beyond the cheap plastic ware found in other shops in the area.
Yet I found that this visitor center fails at its core purpose to educate, inform, and inspire its guests. Even if you are a fluent Japanese speaker, the information about the history, geology, animals, plants, weather patterns, key attractions, safety issues, etc were superficial or entirely lacking. Aside from the English captions on the above mentioned photos, limited support for non-Japanese visitors was lacking. Furthermore it didn't help that the staff seemed to want to hide under the front desk rather than talk to us.
To be fully informed about the area, I would suggest relying on other sources.

I was impressed with this center for its relevance to the surrounding alpine environment. One large room had poster sized photographs (for sale). Each one had a poem or prose inspired by the photo. Many moving and thought provoking verses.
