We were a bit worried when there was no one else on our public bus to the Norikura highlands, but relieved to find snow still there and a smattering of skiers still wringing out the season even though resorts were closing. Well worth working out...More

Our cycle tour rode up to the Norikura Pass from the west - 19 kms and about 1,300 metres climbed. Great views and waterfalls on the way up, but road is twisty and in parts narrow for cars.

This park receives less visitors than the neighbouring ones and as such you are more in the wild as you hike the paths. Possibly the scenery isn't so good but you have the area more to yourself least in the Autumn so you can chill...More

Thank you for your question. May is a beautiful time to visit Norikura Kogen. I recommend Guest House Raicho for families as they have a nice Onsen on sight and you can reserve time there as a family.

Hi there, There will still be some snow on the ground the end of April but you should be able to hike around the area. Might be good to have cool weather clothes.
