This temple district is most well-known for its "Ninja Temple," nicknamed ninja (Japanese spies) because of its hidden tunnels, secret rooms, maze of halls and stairways and other techniques to catch intruders.
There are an incredible number of temples within the district. As another reviewer has stated, many of them were closed so you can only view them from the street.

We came across this district quite by luck while we were out exploring. It's filled with all sorts of interesting shops with many places to eat and enjoy the atmosphere. The adjacent street are filled with interesting buildings and an occasional shrine. Worthwhile seeking out.
