The place was a lot smaller than I expected and it was more or less just a wall and a few historical buildings in terms of the samurai theme. However the surrounding neighborhood was nice with several small streams running along the streets and modern...More

Just taking a stroll will take you to various museums, shrines, gardens and homes. Stop for a tea, step into a home, chill on a bench, turn at any corner, find narrower alleys, ring a bell, let your mind wander back in time. Spend not...More

We walked around in this neighborhood while exploring Kanazawa. The are is the old samurai district and is interesting but there is somewhat less to see than in some other areas of the city. If you go, I would recommend visiting both the Shinise Memorial...More

Sensational old styled and preserved area that has been set out very well for the tourist market. Lovely afternoon as we walked through the small streets taking in the sights.

This area is an antidote to the chaos of so many Japanese streets. The ambiance seems to make everybody calm and there are always visitors strolling through apparently in awe of the quiet peace and serenity of this residential area.

This is a small, but nice neighborhood. It's like you step back in time. Look at the canals, the winding streets, the small shops and the mud walls.

We loved the Samurai neighborhood. It was a lot of fun to walk around and see the old homes and gardens. The highlight was the Nomura Family home. An absolutele must when you are in Kanazawa.

A lovely area to visit on foot; look through two Samurai houses and one where all that remains are the servants quarters and stables. The staff were charming and hospitable. The narrow streets are quaint with canals and bonsai gardens. There are a few gift...More

Cool modern shops line the small canals that run through this traditional architecture neighborhood. Off the beaten track a bit, too, which was a relief.
