Small but awesome for Yuzen/traditional textiles fans

I love yuzen dying and traditional Japanese textiles so I found this small museum/craft center fascinating. However, my friends who were not as into textiles thought it was a bit... read more

Visited on a quiet Sunday afternoon with no activities which detracted from the experience. Would be quite easy to turn into a fantastic attraction, but does need that upgrade.

While this facility offers you the opportunity to see some beautiful Kaga-yuzen kimomos, we found it quite dingy, and that the way they were displayed did no do them justice. Also, although they have an in-house designer working in the front room, the one we saw was into putting Kaga-yuzen on speaker grills and guitars (not my taste) and was... More

I love yuzen dying and traditional Japanese textiles so I found this small museum/craft center fascinating. However, my friends who were not as into textiles thought it was a bit pricey for the size. Overall I would strongly recommend it for people who are interested in Japanese textiles but if you have only a passing interest you may want to... More

You can see a range of kimonos on display here and see videos on how they were produced. An artist was present when we were there painting a kimono so you can see the actual process in action. There was also a very interesting video about the history of Kaga Yuzen kimonos and how antique kimonos can be remade. Tools... More

We really liked this place. Sort of small but extremely attractive displays of gorgeous materials. I wish I had the money to buy a bunch of this stuff. If you are into beautiful crafts then you will find this place very rewarding. A nice way to relax after pounding the pavement all day.

i always wonder how kimonos are made. this place actually thoroughly explain the entire process in video format (even though it is shown in japanese only, but can see figure out what it is all about since you would have read the step-by-step photos in English by the hallway before entering the video room) and a live professional artist demonstration....
