This is easily accessible by bus from Takayama. We bought the combined ticket from JTB office just next to the train station. Cost about 7000Yen for a two day bus pass and ropeway return. Best views are at the top, and on the way up on the gondola so get a window seat. Mid point station has food, outdoors seating... More

Took a bus down from Takayama to Shin Hotaka last spring, sometime in late March. It was still snowing at -2 degrees celcius. Fortunately the weather was clear and the view was amazing! We had a great time walking around the area, playing with snow.

Interesting but check website for webcam that confirms it is open on the day you want to go. The first day we went, we were only able to get up to the first station as it was too window for the second cable car to operate.

The view from the top of cable 2 is amazing. You can see pretty much all the mountain surrounding the shinhotaka. There is a hiking track but only for those who registered and have sufficient equipment. Hida beef curry at cable 1 is pretty good. Sit outside while listening to the guy with 7 pianos.

We purchased our tickets for the bus ride and ropeway from the ticket office next to the bus station in Takayama. The ticket office does not have long hours, and depending on when you want to go on this excursion, you might have to buy your tickets one day ahead of time. The bus ride was really nice, with just... More

We came in from Kanazawa, where we did a walking tour (which was great). Then, we came here and decided to go on the Shinhotake Ropeway. Wow - what a view! We did this in the beginning of October ... I can sense that, when the autumnal leaves are in full display in a few weeks, that it will be... More

We took an early morning Nohi bus from Takayama station to the ropeway, a beautiful scenic ride in itself. Then straight up on the first cable car to the midway cable car station, after a coffee and rice cake in the cafe we headed up to the double decker cable car. We were at the front of the queue so... It was lovely to get up high into the beautiful Japanese mountains, admire the pristine greenery and amazing views. However, the gondolas were packed to the brim being the busy summer season. Once at the top, it was picturesque and absolutely stunning. Great to take pictures, take a short walk through the park and then visit the gift shop/cafe. The... More

Just a lookout deck to see the surrounding mountain range, unless you are staying nearby. Its better off to spend more time in Kamikochi. You get mountains, river, everything nature. Much more to do and see. Of course this is view from the ground.

We were lucky enough to have a crystal clear morning and we were within 5minutes drive to the ropeway. This is a must-go site and the ropeway were safe but you will expect quite chilly on the peak. The temperature were 14 degree on top and 30 degree celsius at ground. Very interesting place to visit for family and good... More
