This is the highest place to visit when you can't go to the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route (黑山立部)or Kamikōchi (上高地)due to closure as a result of snow. It is the best place to still 'climb' the mountain comfortably to see snow capped mountains. You should check the weather conditions on its official website which comes with a 15 min interval... The view while on the Ropeway is amazing. There's nothing much to do at the observatory deck... but if you prepare to trek a little, it's worth it. It's absolutely quiet and peaceful on the trek paths.

Very disappointed , as we booked our trip months before and on the day of my trip to Takayama I found out that the ropeway will be closed from that day for 4 days for maintenance. Although I understand this is required i am sure they can give prior warning.

We took bus from Nouhi Bus Centre at Takayama. Journey around 45 min to reach. 1st ropeway a normal cabin until you reach 2nd ropeway double decker cabin. All scenery was so amazing, must come and view. Really cannot described. Only can heard a lot of "wow, wow". A must visit. Enjoyed the ropeway very much.

We bought a package that allowed us to spend 1 day in Shinhotaka Hotel, the hotel that located next to shinhotaka ropeway, and 2 times tickets to the top of the ropeway. There are bus from Takayama bus stasiun to the hotel about 45 minutes. The scene at the night was so cold and windy, but you can see the... More

We visited the Shinhotaka Ropeway during the early part of October 2016. We enjoyed the views from the observation platform. The views from the double decker ropeway cars were beautiful, but viewing was somewhat difficult due to the number of people in each car. The bus ride from Hirayuonsengo was approximately 30 minutes each way. We purchased a Hida Two... More

We purchased tickets for return bus fares to the Ropeway from Takayama, with lunch and hotsprings at Hirayu Onsen included... 6990 yen each. Enjoyed the Ropeway very much. There was very little English signage at the Observation Deck, but a kind bi-lingual Japanese lady explained to us that the official photographer takes photos of you with both their camera (photos... This is a lot of fun to do for an afternoon. The views are spectacular! Just be sure to go on a clear day as it would be a waste of money if you went on a rainy or foggy day. Really enjoyed this, especially if you only have a few days in the mountains this gives you a great... More
