Just a lookout deck to see the surrounding mountain range, unless you are staying nearby. Its better off to spend more time in Kamikochi. You get mountains, river, everything nature. Much more to do and see. Of course this is view from the ground.

We were lucky enough to have a crystal clear morning and we were within 5minutes drive to the ropeway. This is a must-go site and the ropeway were safe but you will expect quite chilly on the peak. The temperature were 14 degree on top and 30 degree celsius at ground. Very interesting place to visit for family and good... More

We travelled to the Shinhotaka Ropeway via bus from Takayama. I highly recommend getting the bus ticket from the Takayama Nohi bus terminal that includes admission to the Ropeway and Hirayu Onsen and lunch. Not only is it cheaper, it saves a lot of hassle at the attraction. It cost about $65US per adult doing it this way. This was... More

I was quite dissapointed when i went up to the observatory deck due to foggy visual, so the mountain view cannot be seen clearly. Be sure to choose a good weather before you head up to the shin hotaka ropeway.

The ropeway is a great way to see the surrounding landscape. We went on a day that was supposed to be rainy, but the clouds lifted and we were able to see the surrounding mountains.

We took the bus from Takayama station ShinHotaka Ropeway, about 90 mins ride. Then we took 2 ropeways to the top - 1st ride was single-decker cable car and then double-decker cable car for the 2nd ride. It was stunning to view the mountains from the top, a very special experience!

Took the bus from Takayama which takes about 90mins, and is a picturesque journey in its own right. The ticket can be combined as a combo 3 day bus pass, onsen visit, meal ticket (both at the bus station at Hirayu) and ropeway trip, which is about the same as single trips for the bus and ropeway. If you drive... More

Take the hourly bus from Takayama end station ShinHotaka Ropeway. From the top station it is an easy hike to Mt. Doppyou 2701 mtrs for great views over both valleys and see Kamikoche. We went in May, still soft snow until the mountain hut (1 hr) and from there on rocks and rocky path to the summit. Mt. Doppyou is... More
