It takes almost 2 hours to get there from Takayama bus center but totally worth it. We visited in the winter so the snow was all over the mountain, the view was very beautiful. Prepare for very cold weather if you want to take a lot of photo (it was -13c when we were there)

The top of the mountain is great, it have a snow maze and you can walk around and explore. The food in the tram station is fair as all of them a prepacked food and only reheat after purchase. Recommend to take 1-2 hours to visit. The 2 decks tram ran from the 2nd station to the top. It could... More

On the day we visited the weather was quite windy, with snow starting to fall. As a result the second leg of the ropeway was closed so we could only be able to take the first leg to Nabedaira Kogen Heights. The views are nice and there is a foot bath to relax as well. But I can imagine the... More

Finally had the opportunity to view Japan's northern Alps by visiting the Shin-hotaka ropeway. Stayed overnight at the Hirayu onsen so it was just a 50min bus ride. The views were amazing, as the cable car climbed up more than 2,100m. At the 2nd station, pick up a red bean croissant for a snack. Do take a walk through the... More

Great day in the snow. Kids enjoyed snowball fights and building a snow rabbit. Hot bowls of noodles offered a welcome respite from the cold.

Photo says it all. Majestic view from the top of the mountain. Takes about 15 minuets in total to get to the top by cable car. There's a small restaurant inside the summit station. Good food reasonably priced. Can even start a hike from there.

This place is simply beautiful!! You can see the snow mountain up close and it's so serene at the top! They have the viewing tower that give you 360deg view and the outdoor path where you can enjoy some snow and pictures taking! You can spent a few hours here as they have a restaurant where you can eat and... More

The Hida mountains are marketed as the Japanese Alps but are neither as tall nor as distinctive. However the ride up in a double decker gondola would be unique. We went up nonetheless since the kids wanted to see some snow at the observation deck level. They were not disappointed. The station was just 5 minutes from our inn Shinzansou.... More
