A decent experience

It was an interesting experience. You have to take an initial cable car to a staging area where based on crowd you have waiting time to board a double decker cable car. The view at the top is amazing and it was crisp and nice on a sunny day. Clear view of the mountains with occasional cloud passing making you close to it

All white!
Feb 2020 • Friends
I’m a little bit sad because Japan had a very little snow. Thank God this place have a lot of snow. It’s all white! The staff told me that they usually have 2 times more of snow. There’s an area where the snow piled up and built a snow walls. It reminds me of Alpine Route in Toyama. But it’s open during winter! If you come here make sure to wear anti-slip shoes or snow boots with you!

Good day trip.

You can take the local bus from Takayama or Hirayu Onsen to reach the Shinhokata ropeway station. There are few bus companies selling day tour tickets like 2 day pass inclusive of the ropeway ticket.

Fantastic view on 2nd Ropeway
Dec 2019 • Family
Was a little disappointed when we saw 2nd Ropeway closed due to strong winds sign at the Takayama Bus Station but was pleasantly surprise it was operational when we reach.

You can buy the combo return bus and Ropeway tickets at the bus station ticketing counter. More worthwhile getting the combo. Staff can speak some English n hassle free ticket purchase. There is a kiosk next to it if you want to grab some stuff to eat as well as avail toilets nearby.

The bus ride up view i personally find it nicer than Mt Fuji. There were numerous stops along the way but Ropeway is the last station.

There mid Dec. There is snow on the ground, some snow flakes n temp stated is minus 7 on 2nd Ropeway but great weather that day. There is a professional photographer to take pic for you n you can purchase it at 1000 yen optional.

Fantastic place to experience snow
Dec 2019 • Couples
Worth the long bus trip from Takayama - especially for those who enjoy snow and extreme cold. We were there twice - -9C in dec and -17C in January (at the 2nd rope way station right at the top). Beautiful white frozen trees with so much fresh snow. Try to go earlier in the day to minimize chance of ropeway service being suspended due to strong winds. Go right up to the top (take the 2nd ride directly after the first ride). Enjoy the view from the top and walk around the park before descending to the park at the first ropeway station (with hotspring foot bath).

Beautiful view of the Majestic Japanese Alps
Nov 2019
Not an easy place to go to without renting a car, plus the admission for the ropeway is quite steep. But if you have all means to visit here, this ropeway is not to be missed as the view from the top of the ropeway is very beautiful. Be prepared with a thick jacket as the temperature can get very low up there. A refreshing change from the usual sceneries you see in Japan.
