The floating house is amazing!

The gardens were what you would expect, a little smaller actually. The main attraction is the traditional Japanese house (mansion) that was built on the water. Very interesting!

The Yokokan Garden was right next door to our Ryokan. It was empty, or practically so when we got there at 4:30, about 2 hours b4 it closed. Perfect time to just wander the small but pretty garden paths, look at the pond and green trees and maples, and then sit inside the floating house, which isn't really floating, it... More

This small but beautiful Japanese garden is a 10-minute walk from Fukui station, and well worth seeking out. Voted the 3rd best Japanese garden in all of Japan, it is easy to see why when inside. Though compact, it is beautifully landscaped, and has an interesting teahouse on the edge of a large pond. The pond is full of koi,... More

Well worth a visit. Is the third best garden in Japan and a great deal of it is the lake. The fish are well used to being fed (you can buy food for them on entry) and it is the first time i have seem fish openly "begging" and when food is thrown in they go into a frenzy. The... More

As soon as you enter the walls of this garden, you`ll feel a sense of peace and relaxation. The staff is really friendly, there are English pamphlets, and it`s a wonderful place to just wander and learn more about the history of Fukui. It is worth checking out during any season!

Had an hour to kill so I came here to have a wander around. Garden had just opened and the staff were most helpful. Explanation available in english and entry fee of Yen 250 if you don't want to enter the museum which is along side. A pleasent stroll around the gardens and also a well laid out house which... Beautiful old garden and house is a beautiful place to watch a tea ceremony, or just to learn about the history of Fukui City. A hidden gem in the centre of the city.
