The garden is closed on Mondays, but the area with the convention center is pretty interesting and worth a visit. We came back the next day to visit the garden. The garden is typical Japanese: beautifully landscaped, spacious and relaxing.
Fun to see the wedding photographers at work.

A beautiful Japanese garden. Especially when we were there they happened to have the peonies in bloom, what a feast. All kinds of colors, species and looks. The rest of the garden was very tranquil and peaceful. The admission was reasonable and the garden was very small, you could visit in an hour or so. Skip the museum which you could not take pictures and the display was ok but entrance was expensive.

This place is a very big Japanese style garden. It'll take a couple of hours to walk around it. Around October when leaves turn red or yellow, it is fantastic to walk around there at night. There are also an art museum and a library in there.

This is a beautiful garden with lots of winding paths, bridges, stairways and vistas.
The autumn colours are coming in some of the very special maples.
Water figures largely ... streams, water falls and causeways, with the lake itself as a centre piece . The use of rocks... large and small give added drama.
The plantings are imaginative, varied and exciting.
The plants look in very good health.
Well worth a visit!

A nice little park which was once a residence of the Owari Tokugawa Clan.
Normally it is closed on Mondays and on other days open from 0930 to 1730. On the odd occassion it is open in the evening and we were fortunate to visit on one such evening in November. Even a short visit is nice.

Perhaps my experience was a little different. I visited on a rainy day in March. Apparently the weather kept many people away. As a result, I enjoyed a quiet and peaceful walk around the grounds. Even though it was a rainy, dreary day, the gardens, pond, waterfalls, streams and forest brightened everything. I found myself being delighted, despite the fact that my shoes were getting thoroughly soaked.
I was using the Meguru Nagoya Sightseeing Route Bus (see the Tours section), so the prices to visit both Tokugawaen and Tokugawa Art Museum was discounted. You might consider using this bus, which starts at Nagoya Station, if you want to visit many Nagoya attractions.

We went at the peak season of fall to see the night illumination, and were not disappointed. The place was beautiful during the day and even better at night. It's not very big so you won't get very tired. Good for relaxing and taking many pictures.

It's a delicate garden where you can just relax and enjoy the view. When we visited there, some maples turned red, making the garden even more beautiful.
