During our recent family vacation, we went to the Nagoya port and it was quite an experience. There is the big aquarium in which you can see live dolphin shows, beluga whales and many difference kind of aquatic animal species. Very educational and enjoyable for both kids and adults. There are restaurants in the area and resting spots while watching the fishes. Lots of event shows to choose from like the human interaction with the fishes. After the aquarium, there is a big boat just outside the park which you can enter and see the inside. there is also a big museum and a tall tower which you can see the overview of the port. Suggestion of allotting a whole day at this area so the whole family can enjoy and a have a relaxing time. very convenient transportation from Nagoya station.

Nagoya Port is a redeveloped waterfront area featuring some great attractions, many which feature outstanding architecture. One can access here via the Meiko line and last stop at Nagoyako sta. There are three main attraction here, the Port Building - museum (light house), the Fuji Icebreaker and the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium.
We did not go into the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium is one of Japan's larger and better aquaria. So we missed the scheduled dolphin shows per day that are very popular with visitors. However we did pay to go into the moored Fuji Icebreaker, the ship Japan used to explore the Antarctic Ocean from the 1960s to the 1980s. Directly in front of the bridge to the aquarium is the Nagoya Port Building, which houses a 53m high observatory and the Nagoya Maritime Museum. Additionally there is a free-entrance amusement park (Nagoya Port Sea Train Land) with a large ferries wheel and thrilling roller coaster. At about sunset time the view was spectacular, and at night its amazing!.
We took dinner at the small shopping centre (that’s Macdonald too). While not too comparable to Kobe Harbourland nor Yokohama MM21 Nagoya Port does offers spectacular seaside view that you should not miss while in Nagoya!

I recently visited Nagoya port and the adjoining aquarium(for the second time) on March of 2014. The aquarium is undergoing some changes and there are many sections that are off limits due to the ongoing construction work. Visitors will find performance(stunts) performed by dolphins interesting. I was surprised to find that the no. of performances done by dolphins had indeed decreased compared to the last time I had visited.
In the aquarium there are some display screens that give you information about the origin of life on earth and about other aquatic life forms. However, the audio is only in Japanese.

If you have never been to an aquarium before then, you may like it. But, if you have already been then, this spot doesn't have anything different. However, port area is a great place to visit on the day of 'Hanabi'- a festival of firecrackers.

Visiting this place while waiting for my midnight flight and fully utilized my train pass.
Nothing special about this place. I can see the ocean from the port. There is a little fun fair near by.

Staying in nagoya over the weekend. Went to the port as a way to kill a few hours. Subway trip to the port is easy via the Meijo (purple line). The port itself is pretty big. There are two parts to it, an open area that you can just walk around that doesn't cost you anything and the attraction part which cost 2000 yen to get into. Once you've paid to get it, there are lots of opportunities to see fish, dolphins, etc... Had an ice cream (300 yen) and watched the dolphin show which was pretty good. Then had a look around the rest of the place where you can see fish, crabs, etc. through ultra thick glass. There are a few restaurants there, so if you want to, you can spend a also able amount of time there. You can also get an audio guide to help you ne'er stand the various things as most things are obviously displayed in Japanese.

Great place to take girls on a night out during winter because of the seasonal illumination that light up the whole place. A really nice place to take a walk and try the many eateries at the port.

It was crazy crazy crowded! Definitely not an event for children unless you wait until the crowd leaves. If not be prepared to fight your way to the train!! Definitely won't do that again.

Cannot help but feel the port pales in comparison to Kobe Port. Nice attractions there include the aquarium and ice breaker ship. Enjoyed our walk around though before we spent most of our time at the aquarium.

Beautiful location! I was a bit surprised it wasn't more crowded. A food arcade, the Nagoya Aquarium and small amusement park all in one location.
