Easy to snorkel off the beach here. I took a taxi from town, rented a snorkel and mask from Darna Divers Village for 5JD and snorkelled the Japanese gardens for a few hours. Darna’s minded my bag while I was out- and called a taxi for me when I was finished.
For the slightly nervous, there is a system of ropes and buoys to keep you in the vicinity of the coral drop off.

Jordan is sitting on a remarkable natural treasure and the people of this country do not understand how they are destroying this resource. The coral reefs along the Aqaba coast are beautiful and are home to a variety of marine species. The beaches along the coast are primarily public and show it. The litter is horrific, both on the shore and in the water. As an avid diver, I routinely find myself coming out of the water with my hands full of trash. They local visitors insist on walking across the coral as they wade into the sea. The city of Eilat, Israel once had a similar resource and have long since destroyed it due to poor environmental stewardship. Jordan is attempting to control the damage caused by divers, but have completly overlooked the locals and their lack of care.

We dived at several sites in Aqaba, and among them the Japanese Garden just in front of the Marine Park facilities. The corals were wonderful, hosting plentiful species as diverse as scorpion fish, fussillers, turtle and octopus. But unfortunately the place is not prepared to safeguard foreign tourists arriving by their own. There we suffered an awful incident with a dark guy named Muhammad, the only person renting snorkeling equipment in the place. We went further by accepting his offer to show us the best spots of the coral, including the ship wreck nearby, but that turned to be a fatal experience. In the blink of an eye towards the end of the dive, this "animal" pulled my wife towards him, hugged her from the back and rubbed her while attempting to pull her shorts down. Good I was close to rapidly help my wife´s struggle to separate from him. It just ended with a verbal confrontation as we felt alone with no security personnel around and the venue´s office closed (it was Friday).

We didn't have enough time to snorkel here and regret being unable to do so, but sadly we saw something all too typical of Jordan when we went to this park. There was garbage on the beach, and garbage floating in the water. It's a shame they don't do a better job of keeping these sites clean.

We booked an excellent boating trip on the Red Sea with a boat with a glass chamber underneath. Since it was February this was an excellent alternative to scuba diving. Without getting wet you can enjoy the most interesting diving sites like "the Japanese Garden" and others. A friendly assistent gives explanations on the corals, sunken airplane or tank which you will encounter on this trip. Recommended!

The diving or snorkelling here is simply fantastic. There is very little damage or bleaching to the coral. Plentiful fish life. Lots of attractions like the Cedar Pride and Tank are easily accessible to snorkelling or beginner divers.
Warning: boats are allowed in and around the park and aren't cautious around swimmers. Exercise caution and keep a look out-when swimming if you see a boat keep above water until it passes.
We were advised to lock valuables in the car whilst in the water. The beach felt safe. Some of the locals were prone to ogling women in their swimwear (not saying who is right or wrong here just be aware).
There are some shady spots to leave towels/drinks etc on the beach whilst in the water.
The beach itself isn't particularly attractive but it doesn't matter given how nice the sea life is.

I liked the dive sites. However the facilities are appalling. The state of the female toilets was horrible and that is where I wanted to get changed being aware it is a public beach. There are two sites with benches that are designated for divers and yet families had their picnics there which meant there was no space to either sit or relax between the dives. The dive sites: Cedar Pride and Japanese garden are wonderful, but there is rubbish everywhere: plastic bottles, cans, papers - a shame.

The good points
the coral reefs are just amazing and easily accessible straight from the beach ,
Very clear water and great visibility underwater
We left our stuff tied under a brolly for hours while we snorkelled without any problem
The inshore reefs were marked out with rope and buoys to keep boats out and stop damage
There is a small "local" cafe sells snacks and drinks
No charge for using the beach
Some shade brollies and seats.
Not so good .
The toilets and changing facilities , my wife changed round the back of the building instead as woman loos were so dirty.
Mens were not much better full of big ants.
No sun loungers , but then this probably isn't where you would come just to lounge.

В Иордании лучше не рассчитывать на банковские карты, в очень многих местах оплата по русским картам вообще не проходит - запасайтесь наличкой на всякий пожарный

Hello! How do I go there from the harbor? Can we walk? We'll be there on a cruise and would like to spend the day snorkelling.
Thanks
