What an inspiring place this is! Run by a family of artists, taking care of local
community by giving art classes. Some really interesting art works and a really nice tour by the daughter of the artists who is an amazing artist herself.

A friend at home had lived in Livingstone for many years and had become friends with Agnes and Lawrence Yombwe. My friend helped Agnes obtain an art study scholarship in the US. So, when we were in Livingstone last August, we stopped by to meet them. They are renaissance people in the true sense of the world--they are multi-media artists, they have built their home themselves and are building an artist in residence studio, the have an art school for kids and they are charming and lovely on top of it all. Don't expect formula African art; expect paintings that could hang in any gallery in Santa Fe. Expect wall hangings made of gorgeous seed pods. Expect humorous pieces; crocheted purses and beaded jewelry. Don't miss this gallery! It's not far out of the way--right on the way to/from the airport.

A welcoming gallery and studio with paintings, sculptures and a home to local artists, there is something for everyone. Something different from the scores of mass produced market bling - although the bling is fun too. The gallery is a bit more serious.

I spent a month as artist-in residence at Wayiwayi in 2018. If you are in Livingstone or nearby stop and check out their gallery, shop, and school. Agness and Lawrence are world-class artists with decades of connections in the contemporary art scene in Zambia. You can buy investment-quality works by them at Wayiwayi, or works by other Zambian artists and even work done by student artists in their school. They also have a good selection of local crafts at better prices that the in town markets. If you buy student works the money goes to the students and Agness helps the family determine how best to use the money to help the kid. A simple $5-7 purchase can have a big impact. These are the best people, and they are doing great work. Go check it out!

It's been almost two weeks that I discovered this little paradise, its creative studio as well as its gallery.
I have been very touched and amazed by firstly the quality and variety of the art displayed and also by its people.
This whole artistic family is filled with love and kindness.
It's one daughter who made this experience possible by calling her sister to open the gallery on a Sunday (close day). The latter welcomed me with a big nice smile and kindly walked me through the different components of their art of living.
The mum, full of care took her time to explain to me her art, full of depth and profoundness.
I feel honoured and grateful of this experience.
I was able to get a painting from the son and some shirts from one of the daughters. I am now saving money to be able to get a painting from the dad if I get the opportunity to come back.
I wish them all the best of luck.
Please continue doing what you are doing, you have filled me so much and this feeling will stay for a while.
Alice

Artists co-op run by Agness and Lawrence, both among the foremost artists of Zambia. Several of their children are also involved, as are many local women. Impressing how they use recycled materials such as bottle caps, newspapers, and plastic bottles in the artworks and other eco-friendly creations that they produce. Take a tour of the premises and learn about culture and traditions of the local people, and who knows... in the end you may walk home with fairly priced painting, just like us.

I had the opportunity to visit while in Livingstone and was very impressed with the breadth of the work being done at Wayi Wayi. Some truly stunning pieces, some of which offer beautiful glimpses of local culture.
