Wonderful island in the south central coast of Vietnam
Nov 2019
- Phu Quy is the only island district of Binh Thuan Province, Vietnam. It is an archipelago of 12 islands, large and small, the furthest in the southernmost island system of Central Vietnam.
- It is 56 nautical miles (about 104 km) from Phan Thiet city to the east - southeast.
- Phu Quy island has long been familiar with many people through ancient history under many names: Co Long, Thuan Tinh, Cu Lao Khoai Xu, Cu Lao Thu, etc. Western maritimes often call Phu Island The quarter is Poulo-Cécir-de-Mer.
- Currently, there are Superdong speedboats from Phan Thiet to Phu Quy island which takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. There are only 2 daily trips and the schedule is strongly influenced by the weather and the tide. (There are also other types of ships like Phu Quy Express traveling about 3-4 hours), cargo ships usually take 6-9 hours on average.
- Foreign visitors are restricted to the island because of political, geographic and sovereign sensitivities.
- There are no large hotels on the island, only small homestays and guest houses, however electricity and water are provided (they use wind power). The people are very friendly and likable. The island is not big and if you rent a motorbike you can go around the island in just 1 day.
- On the island, there are famous sightseeing places: Trieu Duong Bay, Ganh Hang, Cao Cat Mountain, Phu Quy Lighthouse, wind power area, Linh Son Pagoda, flagpole of Phu Quy Island, Van An Thanh (where to save Hold big whale skeleton)... Enjoying typical seafood in Phu Quy is also a great experience. Floating raft restaurants on the east side of the island are a notable option. Typical dishes: moon crabs, slipper lobster, Phu Quy king crab, grouper ...
- Phu Quy island is very peaceful and quiet, suitable for those who need tranquility away from the noise and bustle. Almost no fun activities on the island. In the afternoon, people often gather to the embankments to enjoy the breeze and watch the sunset. In the evening, people go to bed very early. A 3-day-2-night trip to Phu Quy Island is a great time for visitors.

Best kept secret - very rural island
Feb 2020
Phu Quy is a very small fishing island, ‘Island of Precious Riches, located about 120 km from the mainland of Phan Thiet, Vietnam. As it’s still controlled by the military, foreign travellers must obtain a permit to visit Phu Quy. The island captured our heart with its natural beauty, as it hasn’t been spoilt by heavy construction and fancy resorts.
Travel agents in Phan Thiet and Mui Ne can help you obtain a permit, or you can go the direct route. It took us two days to get a permit.
We made two vlogs of where we stayed, what we visited and the off road riding with our bikes. For 300k VND you can take your bike on the Superdong Ferry.

You can watch our video about this Island on our Youtube Channel - RoamingRebels Vlog 21 and 22 (link in bio)

Actual Vietnam
Oct 2019
Real Vietnam, absolutely no tourists apart from the little group of ours. We had been there for the kiteboarding, that had been incredible, clear blue water, a dull lagoon flanked by fun waves. Of course, the natives were amiable. Food was fantastic. Not a lot of English, therefore master you are simple Vietnamese!

Going to Phu Quy island is very cheap. Everyone should try. Especially those who like to travel dust. You stay in homestay very well. Very cheap and clean. I am in a homestay. You search Phu Quy will be immediately out. I count as a local to guide you to visit and guide me in the homestay. Her house has a seagoing ship. There should be seafood too. Fresh and cheap. Extremely clean. Do not imagine personal expenses. You collect money and play. I'm gone. Play the game. Eat and drink all the way back to play. It costs 2 million VND / 1 person only.

I got the permit to visit thru Saomai Tour phone 02523824111. Staff (some) speak English. I paid 840000vnd for fast track permit 24hours. Applied Tuesday, received it Wednesday 4pm. O/W ticket fast boat 350000vnd. Visit permit valid for 7 days. Saomai Tours have the forms, do everything, including boat ticket. I dealt with My ( pronounced Me ), very efficient. You can find Saomai on google maps.

Fresh seafood (king crab and lobster) and hot beef you can't resist. Just 2 hours from Phan Thiet city by Super dong high speed boat.

Amazing destination
Apr 2017 • Friends
Not far from Phan Thiet, Phu Quy island is a good place for exploring, hiring from urban life and enjoying beautiful beaches, friendly local people.
The 16 square km island is 56 miles from Phan Thiet and it's suitable for spending around 3 or 4 days here and best time to come around March until June. However, you could also travel here during the year. There are some nice beaches like Trieu Duong bay near the harbor, Bai Nho (small beach) - a good place to swim and observe coral reefs, etc
If you are a kite surfing lover, this is also a good place to enjoy. Besides, don't forget to try seafood here, very fresh and delicious.
