really disappointing, we were here 6 years ago and loved the outdoor garden and attractions. we returned again and were shocked to see it crumbling and rundown. the gardens were so over grown with rubbish that it’s affected the masonry so much it’s is literally crumbling.

Vietnamese people are so nice, honest and caring. It is a great tragedy that others killed many Vietnamese citizens, in an effort to force so-called freedoms of democracy of the people of this nation.

The museum has over 2,500 artifacts and photos. Exhibits include those relating to local history, culture, information on the culture of local minority groups, and war crimes and atrocities of others. Particularly moving, are the photos of the Vietnamese children in agonizing fear and suffering.

Just a 5 minutes walk away from Novotel hotel, it’s a very good museum if you wish to understand more about how the Vietnam developed and suffered during the war.
Différent exhibits shows different time of the history.
Impressive is the room about the American war and details of chemical weapons used.... I think today all media should talk about what happened and not only Syria used it....

Especially interesting are the old world exhibits demonstrating how the Vietnam population lived an humble, productive life in an agriculture economy. Yes, the obvious, sad details of the of the American war are present. And the US finally acknowledged and pulled out troops. TOO BAD there's not more emphasis on (100 years?) of brutal French colonialism against this peaceful, vibrant nation. Please enjoy a visit to Da Nang which is clean, efficient, and very affordable.

Da Nang museum gives the traveller a quick insight into the history and life in the past, as well as their perspectives on historical development. Do not expect high quality curation, though. When I visited, I was the only visitor, save for a few Chinese who did their rounds in a very short time.

What I was happy to discover is the moat around the museum grounds. Unfortunately, it was dry and full of wild vegetation. The musuem location was originally a citadel. Could have missed it if not for an old, faded notice just across the small bridge as I exit.

I can imagine how lovely the museum could potentially be if this moat is filled with water once more and nice landscaping done outside the museum. I am sure that will attract many more visitors.

Da Nang Museum has a wealth of history that no search engine can provide. The exhibits on the Vietnam War are raw, confronting and sickening. Westerners, particularly Americans, need to be prepared to feel somewhat disliked by the Vietnamese. Although I'm Australian, my tour guide did not hold back on the gruesome details of what Americans did during the war. There are also discussions of how "agent orange" is still impacting the Vietnamese today. Although confronting, I would still take children here.

The museum is well laid out, with a basic chronological order to the exhibits. The grounds were once a French fort, and the old U.S. Bell UH-1 Iroquois Helicopter out the front provides a good place for photos.

The initial exhibits show the culture that used to exist in Da Nang. Some signs are in English, others are just in Vietnamese. Gradually as you work your way through the museum you reach the more modern history, including a diorama showing the unsuccessful 19th century French/Spanish assault.

The 20th century exhibits are dominated by the resistance to the French and in particular the American forces. Curiously I found no artifacts from the Japanese occupation 1942-45. There is an exhibit on the horrific effects of Agent Orange, in a large booklet of photos you can look through, or easily hide from children.

All in all, a good basic museum, well tended and looked after, with each exhibit labelled. The building is not suitable for anyone not able to climb three flights of stairs. A couple of mislabelled American artifacts, but on the whole a very informative museum, well worth the extremely inexpensive admission price. You can get a real sense of both the enduring link Da Nang has to the sea, and the changes throughout its history. If you can bring someone with you who is interested in history and can translate, you'll get even more out of it.

Well worth a visit, this museum gives visitors a lot of context for their time in Danang. This city has been a hive of activity for a long time and through a wide variety of political situations. It's also no stranger to war and destruction, unfortunately - and not only during the American/Vietnam war. There are three floors that cover the history, politics, ethnic groups, archeology, and flora/fauna. At a 20,000 VND entry fee, you really cannot say no. Plus, the museum is located inside the historical walls of a 19th century fortress.

Today it is impossible to imagine that this horrific war took place. But as a great admirer of Ho Chi Minh it was with reference that I walked through the house he stayed in when he visited Da nang. 'The Vietnam War,: A film by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick gives brilliant coverage of the war and its effect on Da nang and Hoi An. Available on Netflix..
