We did a food tour this morning with Hoi An Safari tours and it was really amazing !
First we had a local drink with mixed fruits, then went to a local market and ate a lot of delicious local dishes in different places, such as black sesame paste, Wontons, pho, banh mi, white rose, bun cha...
Our guide (Bae) was very nice and full of knowledge, she told us about the food traditions it was very interesting!
Organization was great too, with good communication with nice people to book the tour.
Don't hesitate to do it, it's a great way to discover vietnamese food !

We did this morning tour with our 2 children 11 and 13 year olds. Our hosts Cuc and Quan were sensational. We were picked up from our hotel and started the walking tour in the market with a local smoothie we then visited several food stands where we had several local dishes from different vendors. After the market we visited several street stalls many of which had been operating in hoi An for generations, trying their specialised delicacies while our guides explained each dish and its history. We then walked through back alleys stopping for more food, tea, beer and water along the way, ensuring we were kept hydrated in the heat. Quan was busy taking photos along the way which they have emailed to us. Our guides were extremely patient accomodating many toilet stops for the kids along the way. In total we tried 14 local dishes all of which were delicious. Finishing with beautiful iced coffee in a gorgeous courtyard near the old town. I encourage you to do this tour at the beginning of your stay as you will want to back to visit these vendors again. Top tour. Thank you so much Cuc and Quan we loved every minute!

Hoi An Food Safari were great in all aspects - from communication by email pre tour to running the actual tour.

I communicated the needs of our group of 6 adults by email and they adapted the afternoon food tour to accommodate the needs of the group (taking into account the needs of a person with a physical disability).

We particularly liked that we were able to say we wanted to see the "better" street food type places; we weren't into the scary street food stuff - the company listened to what we wanted and took us to a mixture of street food type places and more restaurant style places. We loved the variety of the places we went to - the company got the balance just right for us.

Our guide Cuc was lovely, fun, tuned into our needs and very knowledgeable about the food and Hoi An in general.

If you are looking for a flexible food tour where they will accommodate your needs, these guys are the ones to go to - highly recommend.

This was a great morning tour one of the best things we did in Hoi An.

Pluses: useful pre tour information - thanks Barney. Friendly on time pick up at the hotel.

Sinh and Coc our guides, were a perfect team. Sinh is very knowledgable about Hoi An, street food and Vietnamese history generally and his jokes make the tour very lively. Cuc looked after us all very well providing water, finding things and generally shepherding us around.

The food is great not at all weird or confronting. Quite the opposite it ranges across pancakes, noodles, dipping crackers, pork roll, a great fruit drink, juices and lots of tea. I have the weakest stomach in Asia and I didn't get sick, so everyone could enjoy this food tour I'm sure!

It's fun to wend your way through the markets and alleyways you wouldn't head down otherwise.

Minuses: very hot as you would expect this time of the year but the guides keep to the shade and venues with fans. Wear cool clothes and comfortable shoes.

Verdict: Highly recommended

Barney & Kup were pleasant company and had a fair understanding of the local cuisine and Hoi An in general. It was nice to be taken through the back streets and eat from various vendors across the city.

However, having stayed in Hoi An for 4 days before we took the tour, and having tasted most of the dishes on offer and knowing what they cost (not more than a couple USD per dish on an average x 9 dishes) we felt that at 120$ for two people, the tour is grossly overpriced.

Barney was kind enough to introduce us to Water Wheel cooking class, which landed up being the highlight of our trip.

Dear Preethi and Amit Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent food tour with us. We are glad you enjoyed your personalised guided walk through the back streets and alleyways of Hoi An as well as our recommendation of a cooking class that you obviously enjoyed immensely. I would like to clarify a few factually incorrect comments however regarding your specific private afternoon tour. You asked to participate in a tour to which I responded with details of our regular brochured morning tour. Because you had a 16 month old toddler you said you would prefer an afternoon tour to which I replied I can offer you this option of a totally different tour however it would cost a further $10 due to this tour finishing at a BBQ restaurant including beverages/drinks. You agreed to this. The tour visited no less than 14 vendors/locations for both food and drinks which included sampling 17 separate dishes. This does not take into consideration the Kem Ong (icecream) that I offered you for your toddler and was declined as well as the Banh Bao (steamed pork bun with quail egg inside) again which was declined because you didn’t enjoy eggs from little birds. This means 19 food types were offered, slightly more than double what your review claims. Unfortunately your idea of a tour price with some street foods being relatively cheap does not take into consideration the true cost of running a tour. Most business owners could confirm about the hidden costs for providing services for a customer, especially a private tour. Finally I was disappointed that you left a wonderful review for our cooking class recommendation including how the ladies took care of your 16 month old toddler yet my assistant Cuc didn’t get a mention for also keeping her entertained for long periods of the 4 ¾ hour tour including cleaning her runny nose due to a cold, with her own tissues constantly throughout that time. I hope my information has given you the chance to reflect on what you received whilst on tour and whether we really deserved only a 2/5 rating. You are always welcome to remove your review if in hindsight you may have had second thoughts. I hope so. In finishing I am sorry you didn’t enjoy your private afternoon tour and I hope you enjoyed the rest if your stay in Vietnam. Regards Barney

We booked this food tour for the first morning that woke up in Hoi An and it was great! It was just the two of us and our guide Sinh was an awesome leader with great English and gave us an insightful tour around the town with lots of information about food, history and general day to day life of the locals.
Would definitely recommend this tour and we would possibly even do it again visiting other stall holders to try some different foods.

The tour was awesome, one of my best experiences so far in Vietnam!
I had the opportunity to try a great array of food, all of it delicious - the tour is also a great occasion to learn about the city, and about vietnamese cuisine and culture.
My guide, Rosie, was great! Very knowledgeable about the food and the city, and super nice in general.
Even after one year living in Southeast Asia and several trips to Vietnam (and eating lots of Vietnamese food!), it was extremely instructive and enjoyable to do this tour - I cannot recommend it enough!

I cannot say enough good things about this tour. If you do one tour within Hoi An, this should be it. Even though I was traveling alone and booked with little notice, the company was able to accommodate me and set me up with Rosie, a wonderful, friendly guide who had excellent English and was a joy to speak with, not only about food, but about Vietnamese culture, politics, and travel. We got off the beaten tourist track a bit and enjoyed a morning visit to the "Tiger Market" where we sat in a series of progressively smaller plastic chairs to roll ban xeo and slurp noodles with locals. Rosie was full of information and able to answer all my foodie questions. She was also always ready to assist in making my tour as comfortable as possible... organizing stools in shady spots, taking care in helping me to cross busy streets, providing cool water and fans when possible and wet wipes for hands between stops. Also, it should be noted, this tour is EPIC. While many food tours I have been on around the world offer 5 or 6 bites spaced out over a few hours, this tour had 13!! Well organized, and thoughtfully mapped out, it covered a range of classic dishes and favorites both from the area and across the country. The finale coffee was much appreciated and roused me out of my food coma for just long enough to walk back to my hotel and pass out for siesta....I truly did not need to eat another bite that day. Definitely make a point of fitting this in during your stay!
