It was ok to visit the town: families selling ceramics and you are able to try it yourself: nice gesture. We were absolutely surprised by the Terracotta Park: what a great way to show the possibilities of this material! Great garden with beautiful statues, a part with miniature famous buildings if you like that kind of thing.
We really liked the contemporary architecture (beautiful natural light fall) of the buildings and the displayed contemporary art. Next to the beautifully displayed history of ceramics in this region it was an absolute joy to wander about and experience the creativity of the different artist. Buy the extra ticket and visit the museum if you have any interest in contemporary art. We absolutely loved it and couldn’t stop taking pictures :)

We went to the Thanh Ha Terracotta Park as a morning activity with the kids (age 8 and 10) before heading to the beach in the afternoon. I had no idea what to expect and was bowled over to find a truly exceptional art gallery full of both traditional and contemporary art.

The museum buildings are thoughtfully designed inspired by clay kilns, with a toy-town all around the grounds made out of terra cotta. The kids loved the tiny scale models outside of famous buildings like the Arc du Triomphe, the US Capitol, Big Ben etc and ran around spotting their favourites, and then were given the chance to actually try making a pot on a wheel with an expert potter giving them a hand.

The galleries had some exceptional pieces of art, not just pottery but paintings and mixed media installations as well as historical examples of pottery from the various regions of the country. The piece de resistance are the unbelievably detailed wall sculptures telling the story of Hoi An and Vietnamese culture, made of the local clay with fascinating tiny details, the kids loved finding little fish or dogs or spotting places they'd been in Vietnam rendered in clay on the walls.

This is the kind of museum we would go out of our way to find in London or Paris, and to find it in Hoi An was just fantastic. Highly, highly recommended!

I have been to Hoi An twice now and like most visitors concentrate my time on the Old Town.

The Terracotta Park was recommended by our hostess at our accommodation.
We went approximately mid morning and for a few dollar taxi ride we were there. We didn't know what to expect as from the front entrance really all you concentrate on is the large brick building.

Inside was a wonderful display of sculptures. The displays are set out all over the multi level building until you reach the roof top level.
On the day we went, there were very few people (which is nice). There was no rush and you can view everything at your own pace.

I am no art critic or even enthusiast but the art is excellent and professionally displayed. There is a good amount of displays giving the history of the excavation sites and the potters for the historian visitors too.

Because of the clay and brick the main building is quite cool which is a relief from the heat. Outside, throughout the garden are all the wonders of the world sculptures. The detail is impressive. There are little surprise sculptures everywhere outside.

I feel this place may be a little underrated but really feel it is worth a look. There are no bells and whistles, just good art and a testament to the vision of the men and women who made the pieces and this place.

I would recommend this place to most people. I think kids will especially enjoy the garden sculptures. It is more than you expect from the outside.

I recall there was a small cafe inside and table and chairs to rest both inside and out.
It feels a bit isolated but the friendly lady at the ticket gate phoned and organised us a taxi back to our hotel.

A good experience for a chill out day before hitting the lights and lanterns again.
Support something that I think is unique to Hoi An.

We cycled with our 3 daughters to the terracotta village near Hoi An to get a sence of the villagers' work and surroundings.
We were lucky to step into this beautifully designed museum! We were guided through the museum (an architectural gem), and got to learn some interesting things about the villages' customs.
It's definitely worth a visit!

Went here after the terracotta village. A much better place but at the same time it is missing a trick as it is really very tired and need of some care given to the place. A lot of the models are in need of repair which I know it states the pottery is prone to breaking over time but why not at least try.it just looks very grubby and uncared for with lots of broken exhibits.

We had a spare morning and decided to come here. We were not disappointed! Cheap entry, 30k, get to see some cool terra cotta stuff. The miniature world famous buildings in terra Cotta were amazing. Then you can pay 30k to either break a pot, paint a face mask or make a pot. Very much worth it! We spent about 1.5 hours there.

We rather hate the pottery village as it is a total tourist trap but by contrast the Terracota park was put together by a French expat who wanted to show off the intricacy of this dying handicraft and he totally succeeded. The place demonstrates what can be done by experienced workmen with miniature replicas of famous building, giant elaborate murals and many other features. For families we highly recommend booking a kids pottery class so the kiddies can play with their hands and make something interesting to take home. The only down side of the property is that some exhibits have been damaged by thoughtless tourists and the staff often seems exhausted by some of the tour groups and disinterested in maintaining the property or caring about much of anything. Still, this is just a minor low point and we highly recommend others to come check out this truly unique property

Dear sir, We are so sorry about your problem in the pottery village. Your feedback is very important for us to improve our services. We hope you will have a nice trip in Hoi An. P/s: The man who designed and built this park is a Vietnamese, not a French.

The craftsmanship displayed here in the museum and the grounds is spectacular. It’s a perfect place to spend a while taking in the skill of the local terracotta workers, and seeing the amazing pieces they can produce. They have miniature versions of world famous landmarks from across the globe, and you can even try your hand at making your own pot or bowl as a lovely souvenir. The entrance fee is very affordable for any budget and you pay about the same again to have a go yourself. Well worth a visit if you’re looking for something different in Hoi An!
