HOI AN, the oldest trading city of Vietnam, located by the side of THU-BON RIVER and close to DANANG- having a port. From 15th century, Chinese, and Japanese traders were trading here, and have established their settlement. It is already granted an UNESCO Heritage Site. Total Area 30ha excluding buffer zone. September-to October, old town may get flooded, and avoid that part of season. Best plan to see the old town shall be from early afternoon- as most of the shops will be open, and you may do some shopping, as well. HOI-AN is also famous for ARBORI CULTURE, and silk products. The important places to see here, are:- ASSEMBLY HALL OF THE FUJIAN CHINESE CONGREGATION-Built in 16th century, as a traditional assembly hall. Later converted into a place of worship for Thien Hau TRAN FAMILY CHAPEL--Dates back to 1802, a place for family worship. The roof is of Chinese influence-TURTLE style roof, Japanese TRIPLE BEAM, and Bow and Arrow styles. QUAN CONG TEMPLE--Dates back 1650, a temple dedicated to Chinese General Quan Cong. Chinese PAGODA style is the architectural speciality. TAN KAY HOUSE-- Look for the Japanese influence in Ceiling, and Chinese architecture. There is Silk covered Sabre-- symbolizing Power, and Flexibility. DU-CAN HOUSE-- Another must to visit- address;-129, Tran Phu St.. The property is inherited and owned by same family for the last400 years. Present owner is Mr.Tram. Very well renovated, but old architecture is totally maintained. JAPANESE COVERED BRIDGE--The solid wooden bridge, to connect the Chinese, and Japanese trade houses, located at either side of the stream, was built 400 years ago. This is the SYMBOL of HOI-AN. MUSEUM- A must see. Having very old artifacts, and articles found from excavation of Archaeological sites. Don't forget to stitch CLOTHES, and get made Shoes, by the local Cobblers, which are of very good quality, and will be delivered at your HOTEL, overnight. Price is very reasonable. Everywhere, there is Admission Fee, and best way to cover the sites are by Walking Leisurely--total 4 k.m.
