About
The eight Cham Islands off the Hoi An coastline are perfect for idyllic beach relaxation and exciting water activities. You can also explore the traditional fishing village and the Marine Protected Area. Snorkeling tours are a great choice if you want to appreciate the island’s varied marine life, which includes colorful corals, crustaceans, and endangered fish. With boats leaving multiple times a day from Cua Dai in Hoi An, the islands make for a great day trip. Or, you can stay the night if you want to catch the marvelous sunset over the horizon of the ocean. – Tripadvisor

    Nice little island
We were there and stayed overnight on the Island and we did a good choice as most of the day trip from Hoi An are time limited. Cham island is such a pearl if you have time to enjoy it. 5 gorgeous white sand beaches, water is supper clean with no plastic pollution as not allowed by law. We rent a scooter and discover every bit of this Island. At night you can also experience local music performanced by locals.

Cham Island as of January 22, 2024
Cham Island is a sleepy fishing village during low season with not much tourists. The closest beach from the bay is a gem, the northern one a bit more tricky for solo traveler women, don't expect to be alone. "News" bulletin goes off at five in the morning for all to wake up to in the biggest village so if you're looking for quiet mornings, it's better to choose the other village. This is further from a beach however. The seafood is delicious and most homestay owners run decent restaurants.

Beautiful island. Good luck with getting there.
Beautiful island. The views are great. We were told to go to a particular beach (Xep Beach) for snorkeling, but did not see any fish there. Getting there was frustrating. It seems like the public ferry goes there and back only one time a day. However there seemed to be many boats that were going once we got to the dock. The tour companies seem to have the market cornered for transportation there. They also offer to take you snorkeling to a different area. Don't know if those folks saw any fish.

Visit Cham Island, at least 1 night!
So many mixed reviews for Cham Island, but we are so glad we went there! I would say don't do a day trip from Hoi An. There is not enough time to see & enjoy the Island. We watched the boats speeding in & out all day & were so glad we didn't go for that option. Cham Island is a beautiful, relaxed fishing & seaside town. I think it is meant to be enjoyed slowly... think island time! We only stayed 1 night, wish we did at least 2 nights. Stayed at Tuan Than Homestay & they were really great. Rented us a motorbike & provided free snorkelling gear. Dan Tri restaurant serving up the best seafood we had in Vietnam! So fresh & friendly service. There are at least 2 stunning beaches to relax & swim at. Unfortunately the snorkelking was not great, mostly bleached coral. So we wouldn'trecommend if you are only interested in snorkelling. But there is not a lot of rubbish in the water, compared to mainland. The locals really take care of their island & it was so awesome to soak up the peaceful, chilled local atmosphere & time at the beach. The town was awesome, seeing locals drying fish & squid. All riding scooters & going about their days & singing karaoke at night.

A pleasant and relaxing trip to Cham Island
We went on a trip to Cham Island with Hoi An Green Travel. In the morning, we were picked up by a van from the hotel in Cua Dai, a short transfer to the port and a 30-minute boat ride to the island. We had a tour of the island, then snorkelling is normally planned, but due to a sudden storm we had to stay on the island. The guide reversed the program and we went to a beautiful beach where we had time to relax and have a great lunch. When the weather improved, we went snorkelling. The corals are not very colourful, but they are huge and beautiful. Overall it was a very enjoyable, well organized and relaxing trip. The island is beautiful and very peaceful. I would like to thank the fishermen who rescued our son and others who were diving and snorkelling on another boat when the storm began. They couldn't be pulled out of the water onto a large boat. After an alarm in the port, fishermen rushed to help and rescued them. We did not have the opportunity to thank them in person, so we would like to express our gratitude in this way.

    Good trip!
We get there by canoe, it's really cool. There are a lot of activities: diving with corals, eating seafoods, exploring the island. Spectacular view, beautiful beach. If you book a tour, your time will be limit and everything in rush. Should stay there 1 night for camping and more.

    Amazing!
The beginning was quite hectic but totally worth it. The ocean was beautiful and we had enough time to enjoy the snorkeling. There were not much fish but it was still an amazing experience. The food provided on the tour we joined was delicious! The beach on the island was beautiful and calm.

A guide who barely knew how to speak English, a boat that is dangerously speeding, you will not see ANYTHING of marine life doing snorkeling, a poor museum with poorly preserved marine life and a bland lunch!

If this is not enough for you to avoid the tour, keep in mind the following: you will not have an official guide from the beginning, it will appear when you arrive on the island. Before you have to follow strangers as if you were buying drugs. Upon arrival on the island, the guide offers you to visit the island on motorcycle for 100,000 dong more and tells you that you can not see many attractions on foot. The only good thing about the tour was the beach, which was very pretty and the private car with air conditioning.

Avoid this tour, if you want to visit the island, do it on your own.

I'm normally someone that doesn't do tours, but I relented for the easy life for my first day and my first visit (for nearly forty years) to Da Nang.
Delays in picking up passengers, unnecessary stop offs to tourist shops blighted the journey there.
A tour of a pretty ghastly information centre, a tour of the locals selling produce (mainly dried seafood and rubbish trinkets), and eventually the snorkeling highlight, a twenty minute swim with dreary coral and just a handful of the small fish inhabitants.
Taking a step back, the only reason that I would ever go here is if I had a morning to kill, shoot down on a motorbike and part with the entrance and feet fees of around ď120,000.

Basically when you come on island, you will be arriving like a city pier. if you go there by 11 o’clock they will tell you to walk 30 minutes to the beach there. They will grab you after to go to the beach 30 minute walk they would give you lunch and when they give you lunch they will tell you you need to go one hour early because of bad weather when it was sunny and all windy up, all the movie time was giving clear weather this is truly tipping for tourism. This is not real tourism. We pay around 2 million dong for this old trip which is not a lot in euro or dollar but for Vietnam it’s a hell of money.

The cheap public ferry is only available for locals, tourists have to travel with expensive speedboats. They demand 90 000 dong entrance and cleaning fee. I dont know what they use it for because the beaches arent clean. Some beaches even demand entrance fee. Also, the lower half of the island is a military zone and most corals are dead.

Hoi An

Cham Island Home stay Bai huong.

We stayed with Bai Huong homestays. Wonderful place to stay away from the crowds on a beautiful beach. Comfortable small rooms with air conditioning and mosquito nets.
Delicious food. Basically a great experience for our family of 5.
You can find them at homestay baihuong and Tony is so helpful. He booked our ferry tickets, collected us from the pier and took us snorkelling

We spent most of the time either waiting for the tour or being harrased by local sellers. The beach was ok, food was ok. We were pushed from an English speaking group to a Vietnamese speaking group so 90% of what was said was not attainable. Boat was over crowded and cramped. Have been on many tours and this is my first negative review. Do not recommend.

If you are thinking about taking a daytrip to cham island for snorkeling just dont do it. Absolute waste of time. Pretty much the worst thing we did in vietnam so far. No clear water, only dead coralls, pretty much no fish, really bad food and also you sit aroud half the time waiting for something to happen. If i could i would give 0 out of 5 stars. Just safe the money and do something else. I cant describe how disappointed i am.

Do not book a speedboat tour! It is pure stress. Take the public ferry, stay one or two nights and you have a wonderful experience of the sea and the land with its big monkey population. The corals and fish ate beautiful and much better to see exploring the island on your own or with the Hoi An diving schools. And if you like seafood, I do not know any better place in the world!

It was a good break a day not on the beach but it was a bit disappointing.
To begin i just don't get it why people take baby's with them on such a rough speedboat trip.
The part of the island we have seen is one big shopping area, constantly the same questions if we wanna buy something.
Museum is okay.
Lunch wasn't bad.
More than 90% of the people couldn't swim and were just hanging in their life jackets.
Half of the boat was sick and throwing over because the boat ride was so wild.
Would i do it again?
No
