I so regret I didn't have a look at trip advisor before adventuring into this shop and choosing them as my tailor. It was my second time in Hoi An, and during my visits to Vietnam, I have already tried four other tailors all with wonderful experiences. However, the girls working for this shop had no sense of costumer service ... I ordered my dress and skirt, and the design of the skirt came back all wrong and the dress looked horrible as it was made in different shades of green and with black sewing thread that did NOT match the color of the dress... Further, she became angry with us, when we told her we didn't think it looked good, and she could not really offer to make a good second deal for me or change the color of the sewing thread as she didn't have one that matched the material (HOW??!!! and why not say something before then?!?!?).. Overall, I would recommend anyone going to Hoi An to stay away from this shop and instead visit one of the many other great tailors the streets offer.

Accidentally stumbled into Thinh Thanh Cloth Shop when it began to rain hard while exploring downtown yesterday. I really had no intention of having anything made after going in two other highly rated and personally recommended shops earlier and the staff was not the friendliest. I just figured custom clothing wasn’t worth it and I would buy ready made. I am so glad the rain forced me into this little gem. I had a blast trying on different pieces (something the other larger shops did not allow for) and working with Phu and Nhi, her very sweet and helpful assistant. They made me feel like a queen for an hour and I truly believe it was genuine caring to provide the best product and experience for me. Phu shared stories of the long history of the family business and her own family making me become part of it not just a paying client. My coat and dresses from Phu at Thinh Thanh turned out magnificently!! I love them! Phu was extremely patient, kind and ingenious coming up with eye catching modifications that gave each piece that little extra flare. She never said no to me when asking if I could have this or that change, always a “why not.” She had no problem making a couple more changes at my first fitting and had them ready later that night. I missed taking pics of one of the dresses, in our fun lil photo shoot, a frilly red frock that also turned out spectacularly with a ruffled neckline. The dresses, two blue and two red (yes, they are different prints) are simple and sweet and have made me rethink the whole dress thing as I’ve always been a jeans girl. My coat is pure elegance, what a talent in Phu. And all at obscenely low costs compared to US standards. No need to bargain as Phu gave me a very reasonable and fair price from the start. It was funny as I did not intend to have a dress made, I did not look this shop up on TA until after the fitting and downpayment was made. If I had I would not have gone here as there were several negative reviews. Now remember the shops I did go into after checking their rating which were two of the highest, would in my book not rate anywhere near what they had. My experience was not negative at all. These ladies were extremely professional and produced high quality pieces that I love and the memory of the day will last a lifetime. One thing I can say is try to remember that no tailor can make miracles happen and make you look differently than how your body is. Something that looks great on a magazine model may not look great on me, but that is not the fault of the seamstress. I know that I have lost my tiny waist of years past and as much as I would like a piece of clothing to change me back it wont again not the fault of the seamstress. Phu did the best she could with my body type and I am more than pleased! If having something made, look at the piece. Is it what you ordered, is the quality there, was she helpful, did she allow you freedom to come up with ideas and help add some herself? Then that is all you can ask. Phu did let me know when a color of material I was choosing did not look good on me and I so appreciated her honesty. That is what you want! Also remember most people including myself do not take the time to write a review when we are happy as it is time consuming, but when we are not pleased are emotions drive us to expel it and usually that means a bad review. These women did a phenomenal job!! This family has incredible talent and are competing in an industry where the big guy usually overpowers the family shops because of more money, better marketing, or at times as I have personally experienced requesting clients to write reviews while still in the shop. This family is working hard to make quality pieces and I would highly recommend visiting this gem of a cloth shop!! I think you will be more than pleased not to mention the fun and games you can have posing during the fitting! Fyi I am from Chicago, USA and know quality! Just tell them Sue sent you!!!
