visited this musuem last year when travelled to hoi an in september, time passed so quick, already one year.this museum is the last sightseeing place i visited in Hoi An.after breakfast at my hotel,i walked to here.it is a big building.it features history and culture of Hoi An.you can see old photos, maps, revolution history, antiques, all about the town. from champa period to modern period. though not great if compared to other musuem, still have something to learn. there is a room exhibit some painting. the view on the higher level is great.if have time, can come here and have a look.

Good mainly for perspective on the war--and the views from the rooftop.
Oct 2018
It’s a huge building, clearly in the Communist style: bulky and bland. For all the ancient history of Hoi An in the narrow lanes, this place has some good all-around history and exhibits. The second floor starts with Cham history, including some of the statuary and carvings taken from My Son. The section on the war, with pieces of downed American jets, bombs, and other memorabilia, I thought was the best. Being American, it's good to see the perspective from the opposing side. It's the best part of the museum by far. The third floor is a bit esoteric, more artwork than anything (that is to say in my opinion, skip it). There is one gallery with some really good photos of colonial Hoi An. The fourth floor is the rooftop, and considering this is the tallest building in the city, the views are spectacular. This is also a great place to drop 30-60 minutes while it's raining!

Great view from top

The Hoi An museum has nothing new to offer if you've been to museums in HCMC and Hanoi, but the panoramic view from the terrace is striking and gives you a sense of how the city has been planned

So bad its good
Jun 2019 • Couples
I didn't known whether to give this 1 or 5 stars. The museum is frankly sole destroyingly bad, but i feel really sorry for them because they have tried so hard. honestly its worth going for the translations alone, my particular favourite exhibit was an a picture of a field in which an important metinge happened, as there was no photo of the actual meeting they just put a recent photo of the field in, i particularly also liked the diorama of the "secret under ground bunker" due presumably to it being secret they had just done shown what the ground above it was like so it was really a diorama of a field.

Like i stay its hot stuffy and dire but that's what makes it awesome, if you want a historical museum master piece i would give it a miss but if you want to see propaganda in action go

Attractive buikding with great giews

This is a lovely building on a large site. There are three levels of displays and all have a one line description in English of what you are looking at. The displays are a little disjointed and don't stick to a strong theme but generally relate to early Hoi An and the two wars. There is ansmall gallery of photos and theae were superb. There was the option of an audioguide for 40,000d but as the entry was only 30,000d we didnt bother with it. The views from the top floor were really auperb and worth a look while the museum itself was pretty missable in my opinion.

Skip this museum!
Apr 2019 • Couples
We went here as we still had tickets left for our Hoi An pass, and this is convenient for meeting shuttle bus to our hotel. They offer an audio guide, which we took, and the museum staff tried to sell some other "lucky coin" as well, which I thought was inappropriate. The audio guide isn't necessary - the audio clips are very longwinded, and actually hinder your progress around the museum. The museum is very heavy on propaganda. The museum didn't have any kind of air conditioning that I could see. Skip this museum!

Worth a look
Apr 2019
There are other attractions that are a must see in Hoi An but if you have a spare hour this museum has some interesting photos and artifacts. The staff member who provided the audio guide was a lovely funny man who made sure I got the audio version in my home accent. The Irish man in my ear telling me about the war was a little odd at first as I've never been offered a choice of English speaking accents before but its a nice touch. The audio for various exhibits definitely adds context. I enjoyed the view from the roof too!

Worth a visit as one of the 5 tickets.

Quick, but interesting - bring headphones for audio tour. We spent about an hour here.

We bought our ticket which was 120,000VND each.

This also includes access to four other sites around the area.

We decided to do the audio tour - bring head phones if you decided to do this otherwise you'll be holding the device up to your ear for the whole visit.

The audio tour was interesting - but I don't think you'd necessarily need it, as most exhibits have something written about them. But it only cost 40,000VND per set so it's not breaking the bank.

If you've a few days or more in Hoi An, its worth looking at these sights, otherwise I'd just look at getting some tailored clothes and sit on the beach - depending on what you like doing of course. We'd been through quite a few places that we needed a relax on the beach after 2 weeks of travelling around Thailand and Vietnam!

Don’t bother
May 2019 • Couples
Not much going on here. Not worth a detour, it’s not kept well and the artefacts are little more than pictures of pictures that you can find online. No AC either which made it that much worse. Also feels a bit over politicised to the point of propaganda for the section about the daily life of the Hoi An people.

Vietnam History explained in a nutshell
Apr 2019 • Couples
This museum is worth a visit. The museum explains Vietnam’s History in detail. There are interesting pieces of history kept in the museum. I spent an hour and half there, without getting bored.
One tip here – Taking the audio guides in the form of the mobile device from the museum counter is recommended. It is available in languages like English, French, German, Japanese, etc.
