About
Reaching Out is a social enterprise, training and employing persons with disabilities. Our artisans create beautiful gifts of high quality from tea ware patterned after that used by the Imperial family in Hue to elegant table ware and bedspreads of colourful silks. Our silver jewellery is designed in-house by our staff and made right on the premises. Customers are invited to visit the workshop which is right behind the retail store to watch how their purchases have been made. Our staff are willing to answer your questions and of course can tell you the details of the processes by which your gifts are crafted. They will also proudly show you to our Tea House, where you can experience a cup of coffee or tea, served in the traditional Vietnamese manner by our speech and hearing impaired staff.

- KatePortland, Oregon26 contributionsBeautiful crafts for gifts or souvenirsThis store has beautiful ceramics, jewelry, scarves and more. I bought a number of gifts to bring back home to family including cloth bags, scarves, and plates. They wrapped them well for me to travel with. Aside from the beautiful goods, it is a peaceful place to browse and shop. Prices are listed on the items. Staff are helpful and one of the ladies who did stitching on the scarves I bought was there working. Other staff were working on their crafts that you could observe. Highly recommend this for high quality souvenirs/gifts with a meaningful mission.Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten October 5, 2023
- Dianne SToronto, Canada52 contributionsFantastic lantern making workshopFantastic experience. Ni ( pronounced Knee) was awesome. She was welcoming and extremely well spoken. She explained what this organization does and how it helps different ability people. ( They do not use the term disability). The others helping her to help us were also lovely. Our lanterns turned out beautifully and after our craft making we were treated to refreshments. We were then able to shop in their store and see some of their staff hard at work in the workshop. Highly recommend a visit to this company!Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 7, 2023
- Alexander B17 contributionsBeautiful tea house with a fantastic purposeFantastic experience. This central tea house, which offers coffee and tea tasting sets and produces their ceramic in house, was the best tea house experience I’ve ever been to, made even more pertinent given the overarching purpose of the tea house. The waiting staff, all of whom are either visual impaired or deaf, invite you to use queue blocks to communicate and sit in quiet so as to enjoy the calmness of the silence. This makes the experience all the more meaningful, as you try the delicious teas and coffees on offer alongside homemade biscuits and cookies. The ceramics are a treat in themselves, and you can purchase handmade ceramics in the shop around the back of the tea house. Fantastic cause, perfectly executed.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 8, 2023
- Lynn Swanson CLos Angeles, California1 contributionHandcrafted and Beautiful Artist’s Studio/ ShopBeautifully handcrafted silver jewelry, textiles and ceramics are made by different-abled people in their wonderful studio directly through their lovely tea house, at the rear. Take a tea break and don’t miss some shopping for high quality hand designed and crafted gifts for yourself and others. Or pass through the tea room and just shop! I am a repeat customer and my friends are always impressed by the gifts I bring from here. An added feature is that you can watch the silversmiths at work while visiting. This unique treasure house uses your purchases to support different abled artists!Visited August 2024Traveled with friendsWritten August 5, 2024

Hoi An is a super historic town. Maybe a little touristy and yes, many repetitive souvenir type shops. BUT Reaching Out is something special. Run by disabled artists who do fantastic and very unique and beautiful work. This is social impact stuff at it's best. This is. Must Do when in Hoi An.

Our artisans are very proud of the work that they produce and often of their own design. We appreciate your strong recommendation.

We were originally scheduled to stop at the Reaching Out Tea House but as Covid 19 had just kicked off the tearoom was closed. A little doubtful about a tour of the Arts and Crafts place as I envisaged something a little D.I.Yish.. Not at all. Reaching Out provides opportunities for people with disabilities to learn skills and gain meaningful employment. The arts and crafts showcased were utterly exquisite and we bust the budget buying all sorts of items.

The most beautifully crafted items you will fin in Hoi An. I make sure to go to this beautiful shop every time we are visiting Hoi An. Just purchased a beautiful silver ring. Please go and find this place and support its local folk. Amazing place. You can even watch the craftsmen at the rear of the shop.

Attended a Lantern Making Workshop delivered with infinite patience and great humour by Ni.
With the help of her assistants everyone managed to create a lantern. Some individuals efforts, though, were better than others!
The session ended with drinks and light refreshments.
What a great organisation which really deserves the support of tourists visiting Hoi An.

A lovely place with a great philosophy of inclusion and respect. Our hostess Ni was so funny and kind. We met lovely people who served us delicious drinks and cookies and taught us how to make traditional lanterns. There were some gorgeous home wares and jewellery, but be aware they close on Tuesdays! ( we missed out on buying some lovely gifts).
