About
Reaching Out is a social enterprise, training and employing persons with disabilities. Our artisans create beautiful gifts of high quality from tea ware patterned after that used by the Imperial family in Hue to elegant table ware and bedspreads of colourful silks. Our silver jewellery is designed in-house by our staff and made right on the premises. Customers are invited to visit the workshop which is right behind the retail store to watch how their purchases have been made. Our staff are willing to answer your questions and of course can tell you the details of the processes by which your gifts are crafted. They will also proudly show you to our Tea House, where you can experience a cup of coffee or tea, served in the traditional Vietnamese manner by our speech and hearing impaired staff.

We visited Reaching Out Arts and Crafts while visiting Hoi An in December 2019. We bought a small number of attractive items - candle holders, bowls and chop sticks.

All of the items are beautifully crafted and have been a pleasure to use. We have recently purchased more items from Reaching Out through their website and these arrived safely in Australia by air mail within 13 days.

I strongly recommend a visit to this attractive craft workshop in the middle of Hoi An. You can see artisans in the workshop making some of the items on display.

Reaching Out provides the opportunity for disabled people to learn skills and produce beautiful functional items. It is a worthy cause, a lovely experience to visit with many attractive and traditional Vietnamese items for sale.

We were originally scheduled to stop at the Reaching Out Tea House but as Covid 19 had just kicked off the tearoom was closed. A little doubtful about a tour of the Arts and Crafts place as I envisaged something a little D.I.Yish.. Not at all. Reaching Out provides opportunities for people with disabilities to learn skills and gain meaningful employment. The arts and crafts showcased were utterly exquisite and we bust the budget buying all sorts of items.

One of the best visits on our holiday to Vietnam and Cambodia, we spent an hour making lanterns and then had a wonderful tea and snack break then looked at the workshop and finally the shop. I would advise anyone to visit here the team are fantastic and incredibly friendly. If we return to Hoi An this is a visit we will make again.

Reaching Out helps the disabled learn skills to become financially independent. We attended a lantern making class that was fun and supported the organization. Their store sells high quality arts and crafts made by the participants in the program. Gray WSU to help support the community that the government doesn’t help

Hoi An is a super historic town. Maybe a little touristy and yes, many repetitive souvenir type shops. BUT Reaching Out is something special. Run by disabled artists who do fantastic and very unique and beautiful work. This is social impact stuff at it's best. This is. Must Do when in Hoi An.

Attended a Lantern Making Workshop delivered with infinite patience and great humour by Ni.

With the help of her assistants everyone managed to create a lantern. Some individuals efforts, though, were better than others!

The session ended with drinks and light refreshments.

What a great organisation which really deserves the support of tourists visiting Hoi An.

A lovely place with a great philosophy of inclusion and respect. Our hostess Ni was so funny and kind. We met lovely people who served us delicious drinks and cookies and taught us how to make traditional lanterns. There were some gorgeous home wares and jewellery, but be aware they close on Tuesdays! ( we missed out on buying some lovely gifts).

The Reaching Out Handicrafts outlet now has a cafe in the next street over - 131 Tran Phu. Friends and I went on the day it opened and it was just gorgeous. The wait staff are deaf and mute, so from the onset, it has a really peaceful feel. It is a welcome break from the bustle of the streets! Another outlet for Reaching Out, and you know your input goes directly to helping those in need!

Buying at this place is a gift you buy that gives more. It helps the local people with dissabilities. The work room at the back can be visited and upstairs is where a lot of deaf folks sew the most beautiful things. Go and see for yourself and help them out by buying there crafts. .
