Best cook school in Hot An
A great experience with Van who starts the day with a visit to buy for in th market and she is a mine of information about Vietnamese food. After a coffee of to the kitchen which is well resourced and the experience of preparing the food and cooking it is well choreographed by Van and her team. We have done this activity twice and can recommend it to any visitor to Hot An. The food prepared was all excellent with opportunity to taste all the dishes so a great cooking lesson with lots to eat! 5 star instruction and an unmissable activity when in Hot An

A must do when visiting Hoi An
This 6 hour cooking class, with hotel pick up and drop off, and visit to market, was absolutely fabulous. We were a group of 9 and each of us chose a dish to cook out of a long menu. We then did the prep together and cook each dish one after another. I learnt a lot and it was a load of fun.

Excellent activity for all the family
Such a great experience! We learned so much about Vietnamese food at the market and then cooking it. And we got to eat the amazingly yummy food we made. Van helped the kids (and the grown ups!) with the cooking skills and was very patient. A must do during a stay in Hoi An and fully recommend Green Bamboo.

    Green bamboo cooking clasd
Fantastic trip. Van picked us up at hotel. We each picked a meal to cook. She brought us through the markets buying all the ingredients. We prepared food and each cooked our selected dish which was then shared with the group. Good fun, informative and got cook book on way home with plans to cook dishes at home. Definitely would recommend!

Great food, good company and a delightful host
Van runs an amazing cooking class experience. We visited the market and purchased all the ingredients for our chosen meals. We enjoyed the company of other guests and were provided with all the skills needed to produce this fantastic food. Then then got to taste 10 amazing dishes. These are the best meals we have tasted in Vietnam. Thank you Van for a truly wonderful day. I highly recommend this activity.

Great experience & would recommend to everyone to do.
Loved the whole experience, from going to the local market to preparing to cooking & then eating! We had a small group of only 4 which was good. Van was lovely & very knowledgeable in what she does. Would recommend this cooking school to everyone. My husband even cooked a dish & enjoyed the class, he doesn’t cook at home…..

Amazing experience. Adults and children all enjoyed so much.
We have just spent the most amazing day with Van. I am so glad we did this, rather than a touristy cooking class. She was clear, genuine, warm and gave us great insight into Vietnamese culture. Encourging to our children. Dealt with food preferences professionally. Her home was clean and we ate and learnt so much. For us it was about teaching our children some cooking skills and culture (18 and 13). We skipped the market, Van has all the food ready for us to prepare and we cooked and ate… A LOT! We would return back to Hoi A just to take another class and learn more. The hardest part is picking from her extensive list of courses!!!!

    Best.Cooking School. Ever
Most cooking courses make everyone cook the same dish but Green Bamboo is fantastically different. Everyone got to choose and cook their own dish from a menu of 50 choices. And, while other schools offer cursory market tours with Green Bamboo you buy the produce you’re going to cook. Van was a wonderful and engaging host and an amazing teacher. A must do experience when in Hoi An. Can’t recommend highly enough particularly if you love food and love cooking

Amazing Experience with an Incredible Teacher!
Van and her family were absolutely incredible. The pick up and drop off was really smooth and well organised. We both really loved the chance to be guided around the market in Hoi An and ask all our burning questions about various produce, and the brief stop for a coffee to talk to the other people in our group. The actual cooking was incredibly organised and fluid, not a moment was wasted without feeling at all rushed. Things were prepped and cleaned before you even knew it, and each person’s selected dish was demonstrated with care and attention to detail. Drinks (beer, soft drinks) were also provided for no extra charge, which was a nice bonus. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, Van! We highly recommend.

Certainly Streaks Ahead Of Other Cooking Classes
This is just not a cooking class for the average tourist but a culinary experience that allows you to take your new found skills home and impress your family and friends. It was pretty evident, our host Van, a local is passionate about providing you with the true experience. From having a choice of of over 50 traditional recipes, to selecting your own own ingredients at the local market, to preparing the food yourself, it was all hands on from the start. Miles ahead of any of the other classes I have done, highly recommend it. (I'm sorry didnt take any photos, i was too busy eating my amazing creations.)

A kitchen teaches in English to classes of up to 10 people per class. Here it is the accomplished chef Van who introduces us to the specialties of Vietnam and more particularly of Hoi An. The courses cost on average US$45/person and you will be invited to taste your creations at the end of the class.

Doing a cooking class with Van has been hands-down the highlight of our Vietnam trip. We got picked up from our accommodation on time and we went straight to the market. You could see some other cooking class groups that were rushing through the market. But Van takes her time and explains all the elements of Vietnamese cooking and what to look out for when buying these ingredients in your home country to make sure they're as fresh as possible.
Next is the cooking class in Van's beautiful home (in a nice and cosy kitchen). Van spends a sufficient amount of time explaining how to cook one dish at a time. The great thing about Van's cooking class is that she doesn't just cook for you; she shows you how to prep/cook the meals but then you have to do the cooking. So you learn by doing instead of just watching.
The food that we prepared turned out amazing and was so yummy. Make sure to skip breakfast. I have never eaten this much delicious food in a span of one day. Van also let us try her plum wine and shrimp cocktail which was a bonus.
We learnt from Van that she has a very cute cafe in Hoi An by the river (Van Le Café) and we visited her that evening with others from the cooking class and had a wonderful time trying her very delicious and affordable cocktails (you have to try Phojito!). Van, you are one of a kind and thank you for being such an amazing cook/friend.

Van was prompt at communicating. Our class was small, about 7 people. We all ended up picking entrees, I would recommend other groups to pick some appetizers to mix it up as it was too heavy to eat so many entrees. She takes you to the local market where she teaches you about local ingredients and we buy all the ingredients for the dishes we picked. My husband unfortunately got sick during the market tour (something from the hotel breakfast, not from the market itself). She was very kind, got him an electrolyte drink and traditional herbal medicine but he was not feeling any better. She helped him get a cab back to the hotel while I stayed for the class. The cooking happens in Van’s kitchen where she has assistants to help with prep and clean up. There are unlimited drinks in a fridge where you can help yourself to water, beer or soda. Each person makes their dish under her guidance and then everyone tries it. It was a great way to try many different dishes. I had read reviews that some people had attended 6 times before and now I see why! I would take this class again if I was back in Hoi An. The class is a great experience to see Vietnamese cooking techniques and learn about different dishes. I highly recommend this class. At the end of the class, you get a recipe book, cooking chopsticks and a grater. She ran out of copies of the recipe book but had her driver drop it off the next day at my hotel. However the hotel gave it away to someone else for an unknown reason so she came by at 10:30PM to drop off my copy! I appreciated her genuine kindness and persistence.

Our travel agent (Absolute Asia) booked this cooking class in Hoi An Vietnam. I was able to WhatsApp with the instructor Van pre- trip to confirm dates and hotel pickup. She was very responsive. On the day of the class, Van and a driver picked us up along with our classmates and headed to the market where we bought the actual ingredients we used for the food we prepared! Watching Van greet and be greeted by vendors was fun and we learned a lot about the food, how the food moves from farm to table. We bought meat that was alive just hours before… and the freshest most fragrant herbs I’ve ever tasted. We cooked at her house where the five participants all chose different tasks to learn. Van had helped us bond as a group with a stop at an outdoor cafe where we enjoyed Vietnamese coffee and sesame buns from the market. We learned to julienne green papaya and carrots for the beef papaya salad, debone chicken and make curry paste for chicken curry, what herbs to marinate pork for barbq and she even treated us to her favorite snack - dried squid, cooked on a grill. We made spring rolls and fish. The most fun dish though was Van teaching the art of flipping in making those incredible Banh xeo- sizzling pancakes. As a group, we laughed and cooked and ate. The whole experience was fun, inviting, engaging. She gifted long cooking chopsticks, a grater, and a cookbook of the recipes to each couple and participant. We since have recreated the papaya salad so we can confirm that the cookbook recipes are usable in home situations!!
Van has a passion for cooking, and teaching. A man from a different cooking class even stopped her and wanted to know the name of her class as he was impressed in watching her teach us in the market. This is the best cooking class we have taken and we can highly recommend Van as a teacher and the cooking experience at Green Bamboo cooking school in Hoi An!

Given the raft of wonderful reviews of this cookery school there hardly seems a need to add a further review. However, the 4 of us had such an enjoyable and informative culinary experience with Van that here are another with 5 stars.

Others have covered the morning trip to the fascinating markets in Hoi An and the the excellent facilities in the kitchen of Van's lovely house resulting in delicious dishes. I would just like to underline the comprehensive knowledge and the ability to impart it by our host. In excellent English, Van was able to give directions to 4 novice (in Vietnamese food) cooks, prepping very different meals, whilst giving us snippets of family and social history, all whilst ensuring we were working safely.

We were all of one mind as we waved goodbye to Van that we had had a truly memorable experience.

If you want a cooking class in Hoi An, this is the place! We messaged Green Bamboo the night before for a half day evening class, they are very responsive and we’re extremely flexible with our times.

We got picked up in a desired location, and went for a lovely shopping trip in the market, trying local fruits, foods and juices, Mangosteen is amazing - a must try!

We cooked a variety of dishes in a lovely, clean and spacious environment, being taught new cooking methods and ways to bring out the amazing flavours of the ingredients we just shopped for. I recommend cooking the Chicken Ca Ri - wow the flavours are superb! We liked every dish cooked and at the end were given a cookbook of local recipes to try when we get back home.

I can’t thank the company enough, they are so friendly, kind, patient and knowledgeable of local cuisines and flavours, this experience is really tailored for you as individuals, it’s a MUST if you are visiting Hoi An!

Wow...just wow!! We did this class with Van 11 years ago as a couple, this time with the kids. Van was simply amazing, embracing the children, helping them cook (and everyone else at the same time), and creating such a welcoming environment for all. There were laughs, great food (too much food) and simply an amazing day for all. Highly recommend, you won't find better or be disappointed. Thank you Van. The. Best.

To start the day you are picked up at your hotel, given a menu from which you choose 1 dish you'd like to learn to cook, there were over 40 choices.
Then it's off to the local markets to buy all the ingredients, see how the Vietnamese buy and prepare their food, as well as some learning.
Then a short stop for a coffee and some mango, then off to Vans house to begin the cooking process.
There were 12 of us, so 12 different meals were being prepared concurrently. Van firstly shows you what to do etc and off you go. Van also has a few helpers in the background, cooking rice, cleaning etc, these girls also come in and help with food preparation if required.
After everything is cut, diced etc, one person cooks at a time, while Van discusses the process for that dish and helps with cooking. I was first up with spring rolls, so once cooked everyone tastes that particular dish.
Anyway to keep this review going, over a 3 hour period, you are cooking, watching others cook and tasting all the Amazing food.
It was an awesome day, we had great people on our tour which obviously enhances the experience, and the food was delicious, some were better than I've tried in restaurants I've eaten at in Australia.

This cooking class is a must-do when you are in Hoi An!

We had an incredible time during our Vietnam trip, but the cooking class in Hoi An with Van was the absolute highlight. In the morning, Van took us to the vibrant Hoi An market, where we selected ingredients for several typical Vietnamese dishes. Van not only guided us through the market but also shared insightful information about its background and exotic produce, making it an enriching experience. The cooking class, held in Van’s house with her aunt and cousin assisting, felt authentically Vietnamese. Van delved into Vietnamese cooking history, explained various dishes, and the entire experience was really well-organized and, quite simply, a lot of fun. It's safe to say this was a truly memorable experience for our entire class!

This is the third time I have spent a day with the lovely Van, walking the market, buying ingredients, drinking coffee and then going back to her home and cooking up a storm with my fellow foodies.
Van is the perfect host, her knowledge of ingredients and Vietnamese cooking is amazing and she gently guides you as you prep your ingredients and then cook and serve your dish in front of the group.
We had seven dishes to try and they were delicious and no one would have needed dinner that night!
This class is always a highlight for me when I am in Hoi An and thoroughly recommend it.
