We almost spend the whole day there doing some arts and crafts and just shopping! All the arts and crafts on sale there are handmade by handicaps. You can also get to visit the handicaps and there is even a free 30 minute lesson of how to speak vietnamese! It was really fun and inspiring experience for the kids and also for us, I really recomend you guys to go and support Lifestart foundation.😀

Loved the morning we spent creating! We didn't know what to expect, we hopped on a boat and after a few minutes arrived at an artists own home and was pleasantly surprised by the painting session ahead, it was a lot of fun. We then headed back to make lanterns and purchased a few items in store. We loved all the people we met, we would definitely recommend to others.

Hoi An is the town of Lanterns and Chinese culture. Make a bit of your own here. Contributions go to the charity and the products are unique and stylish, different from the usual stuff in many of the shops there!

Thanks A_Mountaineer, we work hard with the makers at the workshop to ensure the products they make are suited to their individual skills and talents, as well as being suitable for sale. It means a lot to us to hear them described as 'unique and stylish'. Thanks again for your support!

This is a half day workshop run by the Lifestart foundation a not for profit organisation that aims to help those in difficult situations to become self sufficient. Bring a camera. We met at the Lifestart foundation shop 77 Phan Chu Trinh street, which sells crafts made by those who aim to use their craft skills to become self sufficient. We walked a short distance with our guide to a traditional painting class. The artist walked us through how to use our pen and ink and create our own masterpiece. A lovely piece of work guaranteed, even for the artistically challenged, like my husband. We then walked the short distance back to the workshop to meet some of the artists. I met the girl who made the cute sock monkeys I had bought. Then our guide took us through how to create our own mini Hoi An lantern. All this for a mere $20 USD. Our group consisted of four adults and two children and everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Highly recommend this activity.

We were booked on to a painting and lantern making class by the travel company we used to book our honeymoon travelling through Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand so didn't really know what to expect. The classes were great, the instructors were excellent and it was good to know that the money the classes made went to a worthy cause. Hoi An is a beautiful place and we hope to return.

Lifestart Foundation Workshop is a great place to stop by while in Hoi An. Located in the heart of Old Town, the building houses a fair pay craft store on the first floor, a tea shop, and a crafts workshop upstairs, where you can make lanterns or take a painting class. We took the lantern making class, which was a great way to spend rainy afternoon. It’s not easy for young children, but they gave us an option for a private session which was totally worth it. At the end of the session, not only do you have a great souvenir, but all of the proceeds helps to support disadvantaged locals who produce the crafts downstairs. Also, be sure to do a free tea tasting!

I went for a lantern making class with a friend and really enjoyed learning about how lanterns are made, especially as they are everywhere in Hoi An. The teacher spoke very good English so it was also a great opportunity to talk about Vietnamese culture and ask any questions. The products they sell are lovely and not expensive plus the fact you get to meet the makers makes it special and makes one appreciate the great work the foundation is doing.

Both the painting class and the lantern making class were fun. We were in a group of four (adults) and we had a great time - lots of fun and additional information about Vietnam was provided. Both class were completed on the one morning. Great opportunity for photos as well.
