We booked this trip even though we thought it was a bit expensive at 1.5 million Vietnamese dong but as it turned out whilst it was quite expensive we were very glad we booked it & would recommend it. We were collected by a luxurious mini bus directly from our hotel & taken the 5 minute drive to where the boat was moored. We shared the trip with a family of 4 from Switzerland with whom we mixed very well so we were 8 in total with 6 crew including our very professional guide whose name was Viet, the boat was large and could easily have taken 30 people. The toilet was clean too. The trip lasted a total of around 4 hours from start to finish with an insight into the life of a Vietnamese fisherman including them showing us how to fish their way. This was followed by a trip through what they call the jungle to see how the Vietnamese hid there during the war, this was all from what I can only describe as a small round half coconut shell type boat that seats 3 including a crew member. It was great fun & they did a water show for us before providing us with as good a lunch as you’d expect to find in a local restaurant and plenty of it too. Drinks are extra but that is the only extra on the tour. Our guide took plenty of photos which he forwarded to us via WhatsApp. Viet, our guide, was very professional & spoke good English so could answer all our questions. No regrets & I’m sure that all yours with this company will be of the same standard so don’t hesitate in booking.

Ok this was amazing and we had the best fun!
We were picked up by John from our hotel and did not expect to enjoy such a personable experience for a short 2.5hr tour. Beyond our expectations! We rode the buffalo with local farmer who offered to motorbike ride back to get his hat just so we could take photos and video sitting on the special buffalo with traditional Vietnamese hat! We then went on to the local fishing village and was put on the basket boat and taken out to a fishing boat where we met John’s crew -Giap - Binh - Cuong— all lovely, fun and funny guys who made our tour memorable and special. Great photos! Best fun coaxing us to try new things such as ‘rowing and riding a basket boat’ and the fun part falling in water! We will take away lifelong memories and share with family and friends. Thank you John! Great job! exceeded our expectations 👍

We did the basket boat tour on our final full-day in Hoi An, and it was perhaps the best, most fun, most interesting thng that we did. Far from *just* a basket boad ride, this tour took us first through a fishing village, past a local school, and onto a beach, where we hopped onto a basket boat which ferried us to a well-appointed Jack Tran tour boat, where we were met with cold drinks and refreshing towels. A short cruise around from there before pulling alongside some friendly fisherfolk plying their trade. We watched them for awhile (the way they cast their nets is just fantastic to watch) and then hopped in with them and was given the chance to help pull in the nets to see the catch. After that we hopped again in the basket boat and did a few fun moves, before being taken into the nearby coconut groves for a tour around. Quiet, peaceful, and very serene (which is a bit spooky for anyone who’s familiar w/ the Vietnam War, as that very terrain was the site of some heavy combat, back in the day). Anyway, back to the main boat after that, where they dressed us up in some very colorful traditional fisherfolk garb and taught us a delightful rowing song which we all sang along with, as we headed to a secluded beach where they let us try out a very clever contraption designed to haul a much larger net just off the beach. That one yielded a few nice fish, including a puffer, which our 6yo was absolutely fascinated with. On the same beach, the fisherfolk from before showed up and let us try casting the nets ourselves, which was GREAT fun, and a real highlight of the day. It is just so cool. After saying goodbye to them we got back on the main boat and it had been converted to a dining space and the crew cooked us a very yummy meal of fresh seafood and springrolls and cold & refreshing local beer (Larue). Back to port from there and the car which whisked us back to our resort. What a truly delightful afternoon. Thank you so much to the Jack Tran crew for a really enjoyable cultural immersion!

This was an amazing tour. We rode push bikes to a pick up spot and then went to a rice paddy farm to plant, harvest and cook some rice. We rode water buffalo, planted wet rice, harvested it and then cooked our lunch. It was an incredible day

Excellent half day boat trip to sample traditional fishing methods in the river at Hoi An. Well organised, safe and co-ordinated perfectly by tour guide at every stage, with wonderful active participation with local fishermen and women, as well as learning about fishing culture and history of the water coconut jungle and inland waterways through Vietnam's good and bad times. Our guide Tang spoke excellent english and was very informative, enthusiastically supported by the boat crew, Captain Anh and Crewman Chung. Highly recommend this to anyone interested in Vietnamese fishing, culture and history in Hoi An area. Getting in and out of small craft and onto fishing platform was safely done, but could be a challenge for those less mobile, but overall this was a truly wonderful and highly recommended experience.

Helen and her team were extraordinarily friendly and enthusiastic. They made this an evening to remember and a great learning experience. We were able try purse net fishing for mullet and bream and steering and rowing a traditional basket boat. Great fun and made very safe by the team. Would strongly recommend when you visit Hoi An!!!!

Booked this trip following good reviews on Trip Adviser and we were not disappointed. We were collected from our hotel promptly and it was only a short walk, about 100mtrs, to the boat. We had selected the Basket Boat/ fishing trip and there was only my wife and I on the trip that day so got the benefit of a private tour without private price. What a great time we had, throwing circle fishing net with a local fisherman, retrieving a huge net by a winch ( it was hard work and only had one small fish which was grabbed by a stalk!!) riding in and taking the oars in a basket boat, being taken through the coconut palms and told about the ambush attacks by Vietnamese on US troops before disappearing back into the palms. The crew put on a great basket boat show and we’re all very friendly. The food was plentiful and very good. I would recommend Jack Tran Tours to anyone visiting Hoi an.

Super day well organized and really fun. Basket boats, fish nets, fishing villages, coconut groves and some real surprises. Everyone encouraged but not pressured to participate. Guide Viet Tran Van and his team was very organized and very conscious of novices on a boat. Viet very knowledgeable about the area and its history. We learned alot. Lunch was amazing. Thanks to Viet and the team

If you’re looking for a boating experience just outside of Hoi An away from the crowds this is the one for you! Picked up in a very luxurious bus with massage and recliner chairs we made our way to the big wooden boat for a cruise up the river to where it meets the sea. Our tour guide Win was very knowledgeable as a local who lives in the area, we were able to see fisherman and different types of boats whilst watching the sunset. The Captain and other crew member were also very friendly and welcoming. Great service. Got to tick off the basket boat dancing as seen on instagram and had the option to go rowing in the basket boats also. We were told by travel agent includes dinner however only a snack of spring rolls provided, which were delicious!! Our tour guide was more than happy to take photos for us also. Thank you for this relaxing experience, would highly recommend

We went on the Jack Tran Tours / Fishing Village Culture & Basket Boat Tour and it was the highlight of our trip. Despite it pouring rain, we decided to brave the elements. Viet and the Giap team took great care of us. We boarded the ship from an authentic basket boat and began our journey. We tried our hand at catching crabs, which was a lot more fun than it sounds. We then got a chance to see how the locals cast a fishing net and even got to try throwing it out ourselves. It made for a great photo op. We also got the chance to see a fishing island and operate the large crank to cast in the massive nets. This was capped by some dancing with the crew and finally a delicious meal the captain cooked aboard. So much delicious food that even several hours later, we were stuffed! Viet and the Giap crew were incredible the entire time. Friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and FUN!

did anyone join this tour with any young kids who don't know cycling? I see there's scooter offer for non-cycling joiner. But is it safe for young kids? How long is the cycling part? TIA
Written March 21, 2019
Hi TIA,
Thank you for your question. If your kids don't know how to ride bike, we offer soft seat back or seat belt attached at the back of your bike and you can bring them along with you. With kids from 6 to 11 years old, we have kid bike suitable. If they don't be able to ride with you, then we bring our local scooter service, our local scooter driver will take you on the back of him that is very safe to go. We go in the countryside which is peaceful without much traffic. Helmet will be provided with safe driving way. The cycling part distance is about 7KM which takes 45 minutes in very relaxing and enjoyable way.
Thank you and hope to hear from you soon
Thanks and have a nice day !
