Absolutely amazing class!

The teachers are extremely friendly and patient. They’ll teach you about the history and meaning of lantern in Hoi An and then walk you through the process of creating your own beautiful lantern.
A perfect souvenir to take with you from Vietnam 😊

Tou should definitely come for the class when you’re in Hoi An!

Had the loveliest morning making our own lanterns! All the staff (a family - brother and sisters- owned) were so helpful and kind, serving warm tea whilst they teach us in a fun way step by step to create our own design of a lantern! Was such a fun activity and a must if you’re in Hoi An!

We chose the full lantern making class where you first learn how to bend the bamboo and create the frame, followed by choosing your material to cover the lantern. Len was extremely friendly, helpful and patient. He did a great job of telling us about the history of lantern making, walking us through each step of the lantern making process, and we had a fun time just chatting with him!
Van (Golden), the chihuahua, was also very excited to welcome us and allowed us to pet her whenever we wanted! 😄

This class was definitely a highlight of our trip to Hoi An and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this if you’ve got a couple of hours :)

My wife and myself have visited Hoi An many times in the past, and each time we look to do a class of something traditional in the locality..
This time we found the above handicrafts workshop..
Lantern making.
Pottery.
And traditional bamboo caligraphy writing/ painting..
Having tried the first two in other places, we decided to try and learn the third craft..
Greeted by a very friendly gentleman and after knowing which class we had booked, we were taken upstairs, at this point we passed by their lantern workshop, where a group of westerners were being guided on how to make these wonderful and colourful items..
So, too our own class..
Just us, our teacher and the workshop gentlemen was also in the room to help with translation, as our teacher spoke very few words outside his own language..
Firstly we are shown how to just relax and take a couple of mins of quiet thought..
A really calming experience..
Then you are serve some green tea.
( you are shown how best too serve this tea), again interesting how they make tea..
And so to the course..
Thus man spent 10yrs learning this craft..
His effortless flow of the bamboo brush, to create beautiful writing, really is nice to watch..
Then you are given lots of paper..
Now it's your turn to follow what he does, and try to write different letters on your paper..
Trust me, in the time you have, yours wint look like his, but what you end up doing, after aprox 90mins, is a work of your own art that you take home with you..
We found this class very enjoyable and we had some laughs doing the early lettering attempts..
But we left the workshop with a piece of art we did ourselves and that was an achievement too be proud of..
Well worth doing this..
And if you are a family with you or older children, this would be a great family time workshop too..

This is a rather off-the-beaten-track activity yet one of the highlights of my Vietnam trip so far. The class started with a tea ceremony, then Mr Tieu Te showed me the correct posture and how to hold the brush. While it was apparent that I have absolutely no talent in wielding the calligraphy brush, Mr Tieu Te was extremely patient, allowed me ample time to practice, and guided my hand when I couldn’t manage to imitate his brush strokes. Diph (who helped to translate to English) was also very encouraging. Super fun and enjoyable class, in the end I managed to take away a piece of work that looks decent and also a small gift from Tieu Te.

So much fun! And such good value for money. Run by a group of siblings who are really good at explaining what to do and helping out. Came out with a professional looking lantern made all by myself. Highly recommend!

We booked a lantern making course. Lovely friendly and helpful hosts. Made a lantern each. Chose the silk, banding and tassels. There was no hurry to finish. They sort out your mistakes so you go away with a functional good looking lantern. Spent 2.5 hours. Great thing to do in the city of lanterns.

We had such a fun morning at this lantern making class! You get to make the lanterns from scratch and are given very clear instructions as to how to assemble them. The staff were so friendly and helped us along the way to make sure that the lanterns came out looking professional. Plus there was such a cute dog! Overall it was a very relaxing atmosphere and you get to take home a nice souvenir. Would definitely recommend!

Very fun experience and left with a beautiful lantern!

They show you how to do each step and watch to help when required. They will do the bits which you’re struggling with and neaten up everything so you leave with something that looks professional!

Very nice team too (I only got Len’s name but they’re all lovely!) and they provide tea and snacks!

Would recommend!
