We visited Coconut Fragrance Cooking School on the recommendation of my niece, and I am truly indebted to her for the suggestion. This is a family-run business with an incredible warmth and energy—she is the storyteller, he is the chef, and the entire family takes part in creating a memorable experience.

From the start, everything was well-organized, informative, and engaging. The experience began with a fascinating market tour, where we learned about local ingredients, flavors, and Vietnamese culinary traditions. We were then taken on a basket boat tour along the river, a fun and scenic experience that added to the charm of the day. The cooking session itself was efficiently run with a great division of labor, making it easy and enjoyable to participate.

The menu featured a wonderful variety of dishes, including Pho (beef noodle soup), Vietnamese pancakes, papaya and mango salad, and fried rice paper rolls. Everything was delicious, and they were very accommodating of food sensitivities and allergies, ensuring that every participant had a great experience.

To top it all off, they served a refreshing drink and a lovely dessert, adding a sweet touch to an already fantastic meal. At the end of the session, we were even given a small parting gift, a thoughtful gesture that made the experience feel even more personal and special.

Beyond the cooking, what truly sets this place apart is the genuine hospitality and passion of the family. Their warmth, humor, and storytelling made the experience even more memorable.

Overall, this was well worth the money, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hoi An. If you’re looking for a fun, authentic, and hands-on Vietnamese cooking experience, Coconut Fragrance Cooking School is the place to go!

This was the best thing I did whilst in Hoi An. The school is run by a chef of 22 years and his wife (supported by their family). You are invited into their home to cook 5 courses having been around the markets to select the ingredients. What makes them unique is the food that is cooked (look at the menu) and it’s a real snapshot into Vietnamese life in Hoi An. They are very lovely and so accommodating. It was one of the group’s birthdays and they found out half way through the cooking and at the end presented them with a cake - all unprompted and unexpected. We were so full we couldn’t actually eat the cake! We all came away with a gift each too.
The price was around £24 and you get picked up from your hotel and dropped back as well as the coconut boats trip (added because the other tours offer it but I’m sure you can speak to them if you wanted something bespoke). There was a fridge full of drink and we were encouraged to help ourselves. Allergies and food preferences were considered (they can cater for vegan).
I can’t recommend them highly enough.

An amazing experience allowing us to learn about both the traditional Vietnamese dishes we were making, and also the history of the area. We had ages from 12 to 75 in our group and everyone enjoyed it greatly. Tuân and Huynh were brilliant and made the class so fun, being able to build rapport with the whole diverse group of people instantly. We got to visit the market and buy the food we were to cook with, and then get to go through the coconut forest on basket boats. They were also very accommodating to vegetarians and cautious towards allergies. I would 100% recommend doing this cooking class if you are in Hoi An - you will not regret it!

This excursion turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Vietnam.

The family that run the event are passionate about Vietnamese food and it really shows in the effort they put into the visit to the local market & cookery class.

First, you visit the market for an explainer and tasting of the many fruit, veg and meats that are for sale. Next a boat trip that’s a lot of fun ( I won’t reveal all that happens) and finally, a cookery class where you learn to cook – and eat - the basics of Vietnamese food.

It’s a lot of fun and the time goes so quickly.

Go hungry though as all you prepare you get to eat; fresh spring rolls, fried spring rolls, fish, pho (super yummy), crispy rice pancakes and that’s just the half of it.

A great way to spend half a day in Hoi An and great value too.

An amazing tour, led by an amazing family. Huynh and Tuan's cooking class, including a market visit (for the fresh produce for the day), basket boat ride including fishing and crab catching was one of the highlights of my trip to Vietnam.
Huynh and Tuan welcomed us into their home and shared rich stories of their life and some of the family stories from days gone by.
The food was amazing and we were made to feel like friends, not just clients.
The day was a well organised, whole family affair. The family were enthusiastic, numerous and extremely welcoming.
If you do a cooking class in Hoi An (which I strongly recommend), look no further than Coconut Fragrance.
When I return to Vietnam, I'll be back, just to spend time with this amazing family, and cook some more amazing food.

This is not just a cooking class this is a chance to learn how to cook but more importantly to meet the fantastic hosts, listen to their stories, get inspired by their journey and spend quality time with quality people.
What do you get?
Well you start off with a master chef that takes you around the market, laughs with you and then cooks with you amazing local dishes with a special touch for each one of the guests.

Not enough? Then you also get his lovely wonderful wife who hosts you as if you are part of the family for ages. An inspiring woman with a great story to tell.

Not enough? Then you get a chance to cook with other members of the family who help along the way so you are surrounded by helping hands along the way.

There is much more in this experience.

So look no further and quickly book a place. Well worth your time and money.

A full day of fun, good food, and yes, you learn how to cook Vietnamese cuisine.

After a trip to the open air market to pick up ingredients you take coconut boats (circular boats) to the cooking class. The boat pilots are a cast of characters making the short trip one to remember.

As other reviews mention, Huynh is a wonderful person. She not only teaches you how to cook, she just makes you smile!

This cooking class is a once in a lifetime experience and one not to be missed.

This was the best cooking class either of us had ever done, and was a fantastic to experience Vietnamese culture and cuisine. We were collected from our homestay in Hoi Ann right on time and taken to a local market where the lovely Huynh told us all about the different ingredients and was very knowledgeable about the herbs and their health benefits as well. She also had a brilliant understanding of the different cultures on the tour and was very sensitive to their likes and dislikes. After the market, we were taken to the coconut boats for a fun trip down the river before being taken to Huynh’s home. Her and her family were so welcoming and her husband the chef was absolutely wonderful. The cooking lesson was exceptional, a mix of fun, authentic and delicious! The whole operation was very slick and they all knew exactly what they doing, and we felt very looked after. The food itself was just amazing and we couldn’t recommend it more. This was the highlight of our trip to Vietnam.

Our half-day cooking class with Huynh in Hoian was an absolute highlight of our trip. From start to finish, it went above and beyond our expectations. The experience begins with convenient pick-up from your hotel, followed by a visit to the local market where you buy fresh ingredients for the dishes you'll be preparing. This is an authentic way to connect with the local culture.

After the market, we enjoyed a fun spinning boat activity on the way to the restaurant, adding a unique touch to the day. Once there, the cooking class began, and let me tell you, you make a lot of dishes! What makes this class special is the personalized approach—whether you have dietary restrictions or simply prefer certain flavors, Huynh ensures that every dish is tailored to your preferences. And the best part? You make everything yourself!

Aside from the cooking, Huynh's personal story is truly inspiring. She shares her journey in such a captivating way, keeping you entertained and engaged throughout the class. It's not just about learning to cook; it's about connecting with her story and the local community.

I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Hoian. It’s more than just a cooking class—it’s an immersive and unforgettable cultural experience!
