a must see

If you go to Samarkand you must see this fundamental peace of art. It's the history, it's the glory and it's the pride of Uzbeks.

I visited the Registan in October 2013. To reach Samarkand I took the “Afrosiyob” fast train from Tashkent and met my guide at the station. The site is simply incredible, especially with the south facing sun shining directly onto the complex. As an amateur photographer the buildings are a joy to photograph and the history is really interesting. One thing... More

Arrived in Tashkent at 3am and it was 5.30 by the time I was settled in the Dedeman Silk Road Hotel. 1 hour sleep and then out to catch the fast train to Samarkand at 8 in the morning. My friend went to the station at 6.30 to see if she could get tickets and was lucky. 2 hours on... More

Registan is a MUST-SEE sight in Samarkand. Located near Old Samarkand with an unforgettable view in surroundings. Tall shady trees and lush green parks around it add to its unspoken beauty. We went there on 22 October 2013 in the most inviting weather in Uzbekistan. The entry to the main avenue is free but to see Madressahs from inside, a... More

As far as great public squares around the world go the Registan rates very highly. I suggest you visit a few times, early AM with only the odd tired security wandering around at 7am, late afternoon is also pretty neat with the light quite photographer friendly. My favourite visiting time was early morning. Whilst the space and look of the... More

An impressive sight. The addition of Broadway connecting the sights makes the Registan even more beatiful

By anyone's standards, REGISTAN is a majestic public square on a grand scale which has been beautifully restored. Three gigantic complexes of minarets, domes, gateways and high walls, completely covered with minute mosaics, arabesques studded with gold, turquoise and detailed calligraphy, rise up at the edge of the square. The minarets lean provocatively, looking as if they will topple over... More

We visited Samarkand in September,2013.-right time to visit as heat is not too much to disturb you from enjoying this grand city.We reached there in 2 hrs by Bullet train(very good, comparable to Europe rails-2 hrs 320 km,with all facilities inside the car and free refreshments)from Tashkent. After a relaxing and scenic journey reached this historic city-truly known as Rome of... More
