We were told of this "superb beach" on the outskirts of town, so decided to walk there.
Our phone's GPS was helpful, followed the road on the way there, took a path through the forest and along the coast on the way back.
Ferrando Beach is about 3 kilometers from downtown Colonia del Sacramento. The neighborhood around this beach is not the best...therefore a foreign tourist should not visit it after sundown. There are neither hotels and/or restaurants bordering the beach.
A friend and I went there in mid-march (which is off season), so there was no one else there. That made it pretty much a private beach! It was very relaxing, although the water was a little cold.

I stayed on full day at Ferrando, definitely a recommended spot if you like the beach. Fresh river, wide beach, comfy. Aprox 20 minute bike ride.
Best: Quiet, at least in November, better suited for couples.
