It is really pretty and has unique architecture - seems something in the middle between Russian and Arabic architecture.

Orthodox Church, been there for few Christmas celebrations, liturgy was amazing and you really could feel the Christmas vibe.
It has beautiful altar, like all the orthodox churches, icons on the walls. If you are around for Christmas don't miss it (6th jan midnight liturgy is held)

OK, I'm going to confess right here that I saw this church under a big misapprehension. St Gregory the Illuminator. Illumination. Illuminated manuscripts. Something that has had a fascination for me since I was 12 years old. I have books. Pages. I do calligraphy. I illuminate. But not like St. Gregory. He has nothing to do with manuscript illumination, but, being not up on my Armenian history, I didn't know he was "illuminating" a country (bringing Christianity). Sigh.

In spite of the misapprehension, I'm glad I visited -- its very, very pretty and a nice peaceful place to get out of the heat. I also learned a lot about Armenian history and the church's place in it from a very kind and knowledgeable gentleman within. It is the only church of this type in Sharjah and is a good example of the ever-expanding group of host communities in the area. Dedicated just less than 20 years ago, it somehow has an air of great permanence --like its always been here.

In an earlier review last year I wrote "I'm not sure if this is the same church". It wasn't.
An incorrect map and incorrect information from a few people in the area led me to the wrong church. I later found the Armenian church a little further down the back road from the church I'd seen earlier which was actually the Russian Orthodox Church of St Philip.
I apologize to readers for the mistake in my earlier review.
Early migrants of Armenian origin from Syria and elsewhere had no church of their own and had to attend service in other churches. Then on 15th November 1998 the St Gregory Armenian church was inaugurated in Yarmouk making it the first Armenian church in the UAE.
The church has a simple structure with two short towers and red roof tiles. The large doorway has inscription in Armenian script above the entrance.
