Uzhhorod Castle is the most beautiful fortresses in Ukraine and the Local Lore Museum within its walls is AMAZING! You can walk around the castle park for hours in sunny weather. But mostly one will spend time here by visiting numerous historical exhibitions. This castle and historical museum is for sure the #1 place to visit in Uzhhorod! Don't even try to avoid this destination ... or you will regret it for rest of your life :D

It was late afternoon when I got there and the castle was supposed to be closed, but the kind security guard allowed me in. Though I was not able to visit the locked exhibit halls, I toured the open areas and the gentleman even guided me to see the underground facilities. It is a fascinating place. Since it sits at a high point, it offers a great view of Uzhhorod. It is a must-visit place in Uzhhrod.

museum is part of the castle visit which is nice, the expositions are very authentic and interesting - history , nature, armoury, clothing, politics. the way teverything is presented gives the museum its authenticity - very few things are behind glass or a rope so you can look very closely at almost everthing and see every detail . definitely recommend it. it takes about 2 hours to visit all the rooms , but let s be honest there is not much else to do in the town ;)
and the entrance fee is really low for all the stuff you get to see

Had a few hours to kill on a weekend so I thought I wouold take a trip to the castle, has all the usual type of historical artifacts you may expect from a castle and I thought it was quite interesting, also there is a whine tasting cellar there but I didnt have time to call in, although it did look very nice.
Enterence to the castle is very cheap and I would reccomend anyone with a few hours to kill to pay a visit.

The castle is separate from the Stari Celo (old village) next door but together they are a very interesting attraction. I really like the musical instruments exhibit in the castle and info about all the peoples who have lived together in this territory for generations. The old village allows you to see how people used to live. It's interesting to compare similarities and differences in heritages half a world away.

The exterior of the castle is more interesting for me as it is like an old castle should be with a sword in the stone (outside wall) for added interest but inside it has been too modernised with a small museum and there is nothing much to take you back in time to what it might have been like. All very nice but not enough of the original interior left.

A nice place to wonder around and see the artifacts. More natural history than I expected. I assume those vipers were from Ukraine? The daughter loved the torture chamber. Kids are always a surprise!

The capital of former Subcarpathian Rus has a castle on the hill. Just like Prague, Brno and Bratislava – the other capitals of four lands of former Czechoslovakia. Užhorod castle is obviously the smallest one and the most moddest one, but it is a tourist magnet, too. The castle palace has although two faces. Some rooms are restored, the others have already seen much better days. In those most ugly is the exposition of Carpathian nature, in the better ones a historical exposition. Some information is even in English but not all. Who cannot read in Ukrainian or Hungarian would not learn much.

I enjoy visiting old castle ruins. Uzhhorod Castle is not that type of attraction. The walls are seen from above the city of Uzhhorod, but inside the castle walls which has been completely refurbishes are current exhibits of old documents and paintings. The only room which I felt was of interest - is the old chapel which contains old frescoes and newly painted icons.

The people guarding the castle inside (guides) are not friendly - and some didn't speak the language of the country making it hard (impossible) to learn any information other than what I read online.

Worth a visit only if you like museums inside of castle walls.

Lots to see here, most interesting is the collection of swords, rifles, and the interwar period. Nice views of the town as well. The museum in the dungeon area (15 UAH extra) is not for kids...
