We (a couple) are not huge fans of the religious symbols and places, but it is interesting to visit the oldest church in the whole Ukraine. We were very surprised that the privilage to have "the oldest" belongs to the small town of Chernihiv but not Kiev!
Inside, it was a bit uncomfortable because of Sunday's Mass. However, it was interesting to take a look inside and check the interior of this church.

A must see attraction in Chernigiv is the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral (Spassky Cathedral) in the old rampart of the town, built by the first Chernihiv prince Mstislav - the son of great Kiev prince Vladimir, Baptist of Russia. Spassky Cathedral is actually the oldest orthodox cathedral surviving on the territory of Kievan Rus. It was founded in 1024 and it is the oldest Orthodox church in Ukraine and in Russia, founded a few years even before the famous St. Sophia Cathedral and is under construction right now but still operates as a church. Today Spassky Cathedral is the only surviving monument (on the left bank of Ukraine) of architecture of the blossoming period of Kievan Rus and is a part of the National reserve Old Chernigov.

So. I like this church cuz it looks like the Disney Castle - it's located right in Dytenets Park, right next to the St Boris & Gleb Cathedral, so you're bound to see it.

This is a must visit cathedral in Chernihiv. Located in historical part of the city, it’s surrounded by tranquil park, where you can stroll along the river Desna. Check my YouTube video (see the link if profile) I took on a Christmas Day at the Cathedral. It will give you the sense of the place. The bells are just magnificent and really transport you to a different era.

One of the main see-sights in Ukraine. This is the great masterpiece of medieval Kyivan Rus' architecture which was built in XI century.

The church is in very good condition! Some parts are from the 11 century. The interior is elaborate and is very well maintained. It is an active church. We had an English speaking guide (cost 100 hgrevna). There is a 15 UAH charge for taking photos.
The guided tour will give visitors some of the history of Cherniv. It was the centre of a very large and important region that extended nearly to the present location of Moscow. Some of the rulers families married into the Swedish Royal family.
The grounds around the Church are very nice and lead to a park with 12 cannons. The park looks over parts of the city and has a view of the Desna River.
