We went to this museum not knowing what to expect, found the museum to be very informative of the local history and part of the culture in Poltava. Never in my mind did, we think the Swiss ever had an army that came to this area in history to conquer it. The interpreter was really great about explaining all of the history and answering our many questions. There are numerous items on display that help explain the history cultural changes as well. Also if you are gift shopping, this is one of the best place in all of Poltava.

It has all history of Poltava as well as art and clothes. Animal, rocks, War, and some Chernobyl stuff. I would recommend going with someone who speaks Ukraine or reads it’s as nothing is in English. But interesting even if you just look at things has 3 floors as well.
Nice cozy park outside.

Pretty cool experience and I enjoyed that many of the displays had English language explanations, though a couple that didn't I was particularly interested in finding out about. We were in a group of 9 and everybody admitted it was good, educational. One annoying thing was many of the displays were in glass cases, which made it difficult to take (allowed) photos.

The young guy (sorry, didn't ask his name) provided us with a not overloaded, relevant and clear package of information what happened here during the battle, before and after. In Russian language. And I have to admit, that he is really informative and knows about that period much more than there is demonstrated.
What I didn't like - it is simplification of the history. There were no country "Poland" in middages. There was a commonwealth of Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania. But they write on maps of exhibition the names of places as it is in nowadays.

As a swedish person this was really worth the trip if you're passing through Poltava. Call ahead and book Viktor as your guide, he's self taught in swedish and has vast detailed knowledge of the historical battles. If you're swedish and like me didn't know more than what was taught to me in school 20 years ago you will find it fascinating. Highly recommend

You can expect to learn about at this history museum because it has many displays and exhibitions on the Battle with Sweden in the 1700s that the imperial tsar Peter I fought against. It also showed the brutality of the war and the weapons that were used during that time. Location wise, it's close to wear the fountains are on the way to the Bila Altanka. Visited there in Oct 2013 and Oct 2016.

The museum located not far from Poltava city. If you take a guide who will tell you everything about Poltava battle, which was a significant event for Russian Empire and for future of Poltava city. There are some historical artifacts in the museum. There also a Church near by, monument to the Peter 1st, souvenir shops.

This museum is a short drive out from the city center, and located near a few monuments and a church. The museum has some interesting exhibits and artefacts and focuses mostly on the battle with the Swedish empire. Very lovely and worth the drive.
