I just completed a three week tour of Rwanda and Uganda with Encounter Africa Safaris and I can honestly say I had a phenomenal trip. This trip was originally slated for 2020 and I paid my gorilla permit fees to experience this in both countries before Covid shut the world down. My tour consultant, Patrick, was absolutely fabulous in communicating with me and reassuring me that they would hold the payment until I was able to visit. He answered all my questions and made some wonderful suggestions on how to get the most out of my time in the two countries. He even responded immediately to emails I sent when I figured they would be out of office and answered on the next business day (I'm convinced Patrick doesn't sleep).

My naturalist and tour guide, Elias, was equally fantastic. Elias has so much knowledge about the histories of the two nations, the cultures, endemic animals - you name it, he had an answer. We spent long hours driving from one section to the other of each nation and it was as though we were old friends on a road trip - we had some really good conversations and I learned so much from him. He was professional, considerate, dedicated and personable. As a solo female traveler, he put me at total ease and I trusted him entirely with my itinerary and making sure I was safe and had a memorable holiday. I highly recommend this company - my holiday exceeded all my expectations. Even when it became evident that I would not be able to visit the Democratic Republic of Congo as I had originally planned when we first discussed my itinerary, Patrick added in other activities the month before I arrived and everything just flowed. I cannot recommend this company enough. By the way, Uganda is so much more than just gorillas and chimps. Murchison National Park was amazing!

We had very high hopes for our trip to Uganda and these expectations were exceeded thanks to the very great care of Encounter Africa Safaris. From the chimpanzee trekking on our first day to the gorilla trekking on our last, the whole operation was so incredibly smooth and the itinerary so meticulously planned that it has been by far the most problem-free trip we've ever had. And what a trip it was: we managed to see as much as we could in the 9 days we were there and feel like we still have so much more to see. The many National Parks (we saw Biwindi, Kibale and Queen Elizabeth) are stunningly gorgeous and rich with wildlife in each their own way; our guide, Hannington, did such a good job of showing us their many views. Hannington was the most hospitable guide we could have asked for: personable, flexible, and resourceful, it was a pleasure to have him show us his beautiful country. Patrick, who helped us plan the whole trip, was wonderful to work with and we look forward to our return to Uganda for a second trip with his helpful guiding hand.

Thank you so much Encounter Africa Safaris for such an unforgettable experience! We would highly recommend you and Uganda to any friends and family who are looking for the experience of a lifetime.

We had an amazing time on our 11 day tour with Encounter Africa Safaris that we did in June. Our trip consisted of two days of gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking, rhino tracking, lots of game drives, a few river cruises, Murchison falls, and so much more. Monica was incredibly helpful in arranging our tour and provided us with a very detailed itinerary. The food on our trip was incredible as well as the accommodations. Silas was our guide and he was excellent. He went above and beyond for us. He is very knowledgeable about Uganda and his industry. He was able to answer any question we had and spot animals that we wouldn’t have seen ourselves, like a leopard very far away in a tree. He also showed us around Kampala after our tour was over and drove us to the airport when we were flying back home. Our trip wouldn’t have been the same without him. We can’t recommend this company enough to anyone looking to travel to Uganda.

My boyfriend and me booked a 8 days Uganda Tour with Encounter Africa Safaris, and it was amazing! We visited 4 national parks: mburo, bwindi (gorilla trekking), queen elizabeth, and kibale (chimpanzee trekking). The email communication with Monica in order to plan the trip worked very well, she booked the gorilla and chimpanzee permits for us, and sent us a detailed plan of your trip including all accommodations beforehand. Our guide and driver for the whole tour was Simon, who was just great and we would recommend him to everyone! If we come to Uganda again we would definitely to the tour with him again. He is super friendly, always on time, drives a very comfortable car, and knows much about the history, the wildlife, and the geography of Uganda. He always made sure we feel well and comfortable. He organized everything that we needed, so we always felt very relaxed even though we had so many activities and adventures. Thank you for this great Uganda trip that we will never forget Encounter Africa Safaris, and especially thank you Simon!

Trip Advisor Review

This was the trip of a lifetime, and the accommodations and services were absolutely fantastic. Each hotel/lodge was unique, in a setting of natural beauty, with terrific accommodations, food and service. The staff at each lodge was extremely friendly and catered to our every need. We saw every exotic animal imaginable 🦒🦍🐘🐒🦛🦏🐊, in some of the most beautiful National parks. But what made the trip extra special was Allen, our driver, guide, advisor and companion. He took care of us like we were family, ensuring we saw every animal possible, always getting us to the right place at the right time on the game drives. And Monica, our contact, who set the entire itinerary up for us, was also terrific, and was always available to us when we had a question. My wife and I would recommend Encounter Africa to anyone looking for an African safari with exotic wildlife, and top notch accommodations.

Booked a 3 day/2 night experience with habituation gorilla trek in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Patrick from the Encounter Africa office was very accommodating, helpful, and professional to work with as this trip was originally booked back in 2019 and rescheduled multiple times due to COVID. I opted to fly in and out of Kigali, Rwanda for a shorter ground transport to Bwindi. My guide/driver Amon was the best. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about both Rwanda and Uganda culture/geography and since I was solo, graciously kept me company throughout the trip and during meals. He clearly communicated the itinerary and made sure everything was taken care of on my behalf. The trek itself was amazing as I was the only tourist booked for the habituation trek that day so had the full 4 hours with the Bikingi family group with just the rangers and myself. Also very much appreciated the accommodation recommendation of Four Gorillas Lodge as the stay there was excellent.

9 day Murchison, Queen Elizabeth Park, Kabale Forest Chimpanzee tracking, Bwindi Gorilla. Great service, people and accommodation. Simon our guide was excellent and when we had a vehicle failure in Murchison he seamlessly got a new vehicle overnight from Kampala and no time was lost. Good leapard sighting in Murchison and fantastic bird life everywhere. 10 lifers a day with bat hawk, Eleonora Falcon, great blue and Ross turaco being highlights. Chimps in Kabale were abundant and gorilla experience great although very tough hike into Bwindi Highly recommend the tour company.

Uganda offers a very rich and diversified nature. We visited different regions (Bwindi, Kibale, Murchison and Ziwa) in July, which is a very good period (dry season). We experienced many fantastic situations. Even on days we were transitting, we had incredible experiences (beautiful landscapes and unexpected encounters with animals). Visiting the gorillas in the mountains and the chimps in the forest are of course a must but all the other activities were impressive as well : boat tour on the Nile with the hippo’s and crocodiles, seeing the top of the impressive Murchison falls, game driving amongst elephants, giraffes, water bucks, buffaloes, lions, leopards and many other wonderful animals. We highly recommend Encounter Africa Safaris: they are very professional, they know the country, the parcs and the rangers very well. They are one of the best references to organise the safari of your dreams ! Monica was highly responsive and helped to choose locations and activities based on our preferences. Even when we needed help with the entry visa, she was able to jump in.
Do not hesitate about travelling to Uganda despite the covid situation: healthcare is taking very seriously by Encounter Africa, the hotels and the parcs ! Our guide Hannington had masks and sanitizer and helped us to get a mandatory covid test before our departure. In the parcs, temperature is checked, masks are mandatory and hand sanitizer is used upon arrival, before and after meals, even before approaching the gorillas!
Everyone is very friendly and our guide Hannington was really super and very professional during the entire trip ! He is very experienced, he knows the country and the parcs very well and he is an excellent driver! We learned a lot about the country, the food and the nature with him. During our safari game drive he even managed to spot a well-hidden leopard! He went above and beyond expectations to make this trip incredible. Thanks a lot to the organisation and the professionalism and kindness of our guide Hannington. We highly recommend him !

I attached the Gorilla trekking to a business trip. The rainy weather at arrival had made me shorten my Safari from 5 to 3 days and Monica- the agent - was super flexible in accommodating my needs. In the end, the weather in Bwindi was not that bad after all, despite being rainy season. My driver was Stephen who is an extremely friendly guy and a superb driver who makes you feel safe even on the most bumpy and muddy roads. You can learn a lot from him about Ugandan lifestyle and the struggle of the locals around Bwindi National Park. I stayed at Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge. They take really good care of you, it’s clean, the food is delicious, The Valley view from the lodge is amazing. The Gorilla trek was fascinating, Stephen will make sure that you get a group according to your fitness, everyone including the rangers takes really good care of you! They will all make you feel very safe and this to be an unforgettable experience. We had to follow the Gorillas through steep terrain but not for two long, the trek took us altogether less than 4 hours. Take a porter, even if you think you don’t really need one. This way you support the community. Make sure to carry enough cash to tip everyone and be prepared for a long ride to getting to Bwindi and back. But it’s totally worth it! I can 100% recommend Encounter Africa Safari.

A 12 day trip to remember!
What a fantastic trip we had. Working around the gorilla treks, Encounter Africa organised a full itinerary of treks, game drives and cruises. Patrick was patient and responsive with the booking details to start with and then our drivers Alex and Martin topped it with their dedication and care throughout.
Apart from being a beautiful and lush country itself, we'd thoroughly recommend Encounter Africa to anyone thinking of doing something similar in Uganda.
