I recently completed a 30 days trip in Rwanda and Uganda with the Encounter Africa Safaris. I highly recommend you choose this tour operator to travel to these two countries. Encounter Africa Safaris did an excellent job with the Covid 19 safety guidelines, making me feel safe during the whole trip. But first of all, I would like to thank both guides during this journey, Kakuru in Rwanda and Silas in Uganda. Kakuru and Silas were excellent and safe drivers, and they knew what they were doing during the whole trip. Both tried their best to make this experience the most wonderful trip. If I need to define both guides in a few words, I must say that Kakuru is friendly and generous, and Silas is very professional and knows a lot about wildlife and Ugandan history. Second, I want to thank Monica for assisting me efficiently since the first email I sent contacted the tour operator. The itinerary was designed by myself, but Monica gave me precious tips about every single detail. She was also very supportive of resolving any problems that happened during the trip. The best and worst for Encounter Africa Safaris: - Rwanda: Best - Tour guide (Kakuru), Vehicle, Perfect choice of tour/trekking guides in all the National Parks Worst - Communication with Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge - Uganda Best - Tour guide (Silas) - please choose Silas if you are a wildlife lover, excellent communication with lodges Worst - The vehicle was not in the best condition, and unfortunately, the tour operator did not replace it until the end of the trip. Overall, I consider this tour operator with five stars, and I highly recommend you choose Encounter Africa Safaris if you want to have an unforgettable African experience. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you, Encounter Africa Safaris. I will return to Africa, and I will choose you again as my tour operator. I to reinforce again, my special thanks go to Kakuru and Silas. I won two friends. I hope the following comments about the detailed itinerary will help while choosing your African adventure to Rwanda and Uganda: Rwanda - 10 days July 1 - Arrival in Kigali. A Covid test is required on arrival. I received the results less than 24 in less than 24 hours. Hotel des Mille Collines - reasonable accommodation, perfect location as a starting point, excellent breakfast July 2 - Must do - visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial. I highly recommend you do it at the beginning of your trip. Drive to Akagera National Park and boat cruise in the afternoon (best time of the day to do it - an outstanding sunset). July 3 - Whole day game drive (including night game drive). Please choose in the park reception Justus Itangishatse as your park guide. An excellent game drive day - outstanding wildlife experience, including a pride of 12 lions. Highlights in Akagera National Park: - boat cruise, wildlife, accommodation (Akagera Game Lodge, rooms and food are perfect), sunrise in the lodge Negative points - night game drive July 4 - Travel to Nyungwe National Park. Entire day trip. The roads are excellent. Drive to Kigali for the Covid test (go earlier as possible). Negative points - King’s Palace Museum not impressive. If time is a constrain, please drive directly from Kigali to Nyungwe National Park. July 5 - Nyungwe National Park: Isumo waterfall trail and Colobus monkey trekking July 6 - Nyungwe National Park: Chimpanzee trekking. Drive to do the Covid test. Afternoon - canopy walk Highlights in Nyungwe National Park: Choose Nduwe David as your guide for Colobus monkeys and Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk guide. Limited choices for accommodation - Nyungwe Top View Hill Lodge was affordable. Rooms - satisfactory, staff and food - very good. Negative points - Chimpanzee trekking. These chimps are semi-habituated groups. Please prepare yourself to be fit. July 7 - Drive to Volcanoes National Park - several stops close to Lake Kivu. If you have more days, I suggest adding an extra day to stay in Lake Kivu. Leave Nyungwe National Park as earlier as possible. July 8 - Gorilla trekking - Amahoro group and cultural experience July 9 - Gorilla trekking - Susa group and Karisoke Research Center - Dian Fossey Museum. Perform a Covid test. July 10 - Dian Fossey Hike Highlights in Volcanoes National Park - outstanding views of Virunga Mountains, vegetation/flora in the slopes of the mountains, both gorilla trekking experiences (please do more than one gorilla trekking. Each trekking is a different experience); everyone visiting the VNP need to make the Dian Fossey Trail; For the nature walks and trekking experiences, I recommend you to choose Ms. Loyce Gashumba as your guide. She’s perfect. Alternative accommodation - Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge - rooms are satisfactory but best staff and food in Rwanda. Negative points - Please do not stay in Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge. The lodge looked abandoned, and the manager arrived 30 min later, completely drunk. July 11 - Drive to Kigali RESUME OF RWANDA - TOP 5 - Kakuru guide, gorilla trekking (Susa Group), explore different habitats in Virunga Mountains; All activities in Nyungwe National Park; Views from Lake Kivu Uganda - 20 days July 12 - Arrival in Entebbe. Domestic Flight to Kihihi (excellent experience). Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. July 13 - Gorilla trekking in Buhoma sector and Visit Ride 4 a Woman project. July 14 - River Ivy walk trail from Buhoma to Nkuringo sector July 15 - Gorilla habituation experience in Rushaga sector Highlights in Bwindi - gorilla habituation experience (for those that had already a first gorilla trekking experience); 17 km of the River Ivy walk trail - a must-do in Bwindi Accommodation in Bwindi: 1 - Engagi lodge - perfect location/rooms - good/amazing views/ Food - not good 2 - Rushaga Gorilla camp - good location/ rooms - good and clean - Food - excellent I preferred the gorilla trekking guides in Rwanda. July 16 - Drive to Mgahinga National Park via Lake Mutanda for canoeing. It’s too windy; please not do the canoeing activity. Do not stay in the Lake Chahafi Resort. Besides the perfect location, the lodge is currently under construction, and the rooms were not clean. July 17 - Golden Monkey trekking and drive to Lake Bunyonyi. Amazing views of the Lake. Overnight in Birdnest - the accommodation was in a perfect location. Room - good / Food - satisfactory. July 18 - Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Game drive in Ishasha sector. No tree climbing lions (besides the efforts of Silas) July 19 - Morning game drive and boat cruise in Kazinga channel. Highlights in QENP: Boat trip in Kazinga channel - best wildlife activity during the trip; Accommodation - Mweya Safari Lodge - rooms - perfect/ food - excellent/ views and location - perfect; Lion tracking July 20 - Morning game drive in QENP - Lion and leopard tracking. Drive to Kibale Forest National Park. Bigodi wetland walk (perfect for monkeys). July 21 - Chimpanzee Habituation Experience / Chimpanzee trekking. If you go for the first experience with Chimps, do not choose the Chimp habituation experience. Highlights in Kibale: Chimpanzee trekking, Wildlife in the Bigodi wetland, Accommodation - Turaco Tree Tops - best lodge in Uganda - location - perfect; rooms - perfect and food - excellent. July 22 - Drive to Murchison Falls National Park - Excellent sunset in the Murchison Falls and afternoon game drive July 23 - Morning delta cruise, lunch at Murchison Falls, and afternoon game drive July 24 - Morning game drive and boat cruise to the bottom of the falls Highlights in MFNP: Top and bottom of Murchison Falls; Giraffes, elephants, and lions during game drive Negative points: delta cruise; Accommodation - perfect location but rooms and staff were not good July 25 - Drive to Kidepo Valley National Park - I suggest adding an extra night halfway July 26 - Nature walk and Game drive in Kidepo. July 27 - Morning - Ik village; Afternoon - Karamojong Manyatta cultural visit. For me, this was the TOP activity in Uganda. A lifetime dream experience. If you want to make some donations, this is the perfect moment. Just be careful, as the UWA guide I had during the trip tried to stole my donatives. Encounter Africa Safaris did an excellent job of communicating the episode to the UWA. Highlights in Kidepo Valley: Ik and Karamojong Manyatta communities; Nice game drive for antelopes; Accommodation - Kidepo savannah lodge - food and staff - good/room and bathroom - satisfactory. Negative points: nature walk July 28 - Drive to Sipi Falls - the road is extremely bad to Sipi falls. I suggest overnighting halfway. July 29 - Abseiling (an exciting experience full of adrenaline); hike Sipi falls Highlights in Sipi falls: abseiling, views from Sipi falls, Sipi River Lodge - second-best lodge in Uganda - amazing view from the cottage to the waterfalls, staff, and food - excellent July 30 - Drive to Entebbe July 31 - Mabamba Swamp bird watching (no shoebill :) ). Thank you, Silas, for giving me the opportunity to meet your family. Accommodation last 2 nights - Admas Grand Hotel - excellent food and accommodation.

We had a wonderful time with Encounter Africa from the planning stages till the drop off at the airport. Patrick was very communicative before our trip and swiftly changed our schedule when one of our flights got cancelled. We traveled to the gorilla site with Hannington who shared with us history, legends, and animal knowledge. The drive was very entertaining and safe. Thank you Hannington for accommodating our crazy (at times!) schedule. The gorilla trek was a great experience that I recommend to anyone. We were tracking a family that had two silverback and two new born gorillas! Overall, we are very happy with the time we traveled and the experience that we had.

I recently completed the 3 day tour from Entebbe to Bwindi. My driver Martin was an excellent guide. You could tell he had completed this trip many times. I had no safety concerns throughout the trip. Patrick did a great job advising where to get a covid test for departure out of Uganda. In all, my 3 day tour was well worth it. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful experience all around. Monica was tremendously helpful in assisting in the organizing of the trip. She was polite, courteous, and prompt in replying to my questions, no matter when I asked - day or night / week or weekends. And Alan was a wonderful guide. Extremely friendly, very knowledgeable, and super accommodating. I had a great time spending the safari with him. The lodging was great and the staff was wonderful. This is a 5 Star class organization. I highly recommend and would always book with this company. You won't be disappointed.

I want to commend Monica for giving me an adventure of my lifetime. From the start she was focused on my every concerns and desires. Being my first and possibly my last visit to Africa I wanted to see and experience it all. She helped me put together a 23 day private itinerary in 3 countries. My first safaris in Uganda were incredible with my guide Ambrose which I highly would recommend. My next safaris were in Tanszania and Kenya. I did experience problems in Kenya with my guide and Monica stepped in to work it out. I do believe than Kenya has a problem with guides scamming and hope that my bad experience may help make an awareness to stop this. My game drives were cut short, the guide was deliberately not keeping to my itinerary, and lacked any enthusiasm or personal service. I knew this as in Tanzania and Uganda it was opposite and things just didn’t seem right. In fact, guides all stayed at the same place as I did to keep to the schedule but in Kenya the guide had excuses to why he couldn’t stay were I was staying which later I found was a scam. Other than my bad experience in Kenya my expectations were more than met. Thank you Monica and Ambrose.
