Found this company online and decided to book because of the many positive reviews on this website. Therefor I would like to add another one. We rented a Toyota Landcruiser with pop up rooftent for a month. We wanted to travel through Kenya and Uganda but ended up spending most of our time in Kenya. They drove the vehicle to Nairobi for us at extra cost ($250) and we drove it back to Entebbe. But when renting for over 3 weeks it is worth doing because it is still cheaper than renting a similar vehicle in Kenya. We were very pleased with the condition of the car and the service of Joseph and Paul. Ran into a minor problem with opening of the back door but were allowed to have it fixed at a garage at their cost. All communication was very clear and swift. When texting we received an answer within a few minutes. I would definitely recommend using them and will use them again myself on my next travel in Africa. (They allow you to take the car to many other countries) As for the few negative comments that I read here I just want to state: Do not expect first world cars! They are not new cars, have dints and scratches and might have minor defaults. Remember you are in Africa and renting at fairly low prices.

In 2022, I rented a Toyota Prado for 30 days, and in 2024, a Land Cruiser V8 for 10 days. On both occasions, the experience was positive. The vehicles were in excellent condition, and the value for money was truly outstanding. Communication with Joseph was always smooth, and I never encountered any problems.
I have read some negative reviews where customers complained about car problems and the company's less-than-perfect handling of the issues. I believe these people did not fully understand the context they were in. Perhaps they expected a 5-star service as if they were in central London, but they wanted it at bargain prices. They didn't consider the difficulties encountered when operating in Uganda, and the goodwill and commitment that Joseph puts into offering the best possible service, despite the challenges inherent in a complex operating environment like Uganda.
Joseph never abandons you in difficulties; he goes out of his way to meet your needs and is totally reliable. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to rent a vehicle from a serious and honest person, and especially to those who understand the spirit of traveling in Uganda. Otherwise, perhaps it's better to stay at home.

We embarked on a 2-week self-driving tour in Uganda, and it was an incredible experience! We rented a Toyota Prado with a popup roof, and the vehicle was in good condition. The communication with Jozeph and his team at 4x4 Uganda was top-notch—friendly, efficient, and always prompt. Their exceptional service made our journey smooth and enjoyable. We rented a landcruiser prado with a rooftop tent for our 2-week trip around Uganda and Rwanda with 4x4 Uganda. The car worked really well and was equipped with a fridge, camping gear was also provided. We only had one problem with the battery but Joseph and his colleagues quickly provided a solution. At the border crossing we were also provided support. The car was in good shape and we had the best time during our trip. Joseph helped us get the chimpanzee and gorilla tracking permits and he was always quick to answer. We definitely recommend 4x4 Uganda.

Met us at the airport with vehicle, simple and easy pick up. Don't expect the vehicle to be highly polished and dent free...they're workhorses.Off we went...up until it broke down a day later. Not to worry, these things happen...we're easy going. This is where we gauge a company - their response.
Their response was excellent. Replacement vehicle within a few hours, taxi to hotel (3 hours away) while waiting for replacement.
Any company can get good reviews when everything is going right: it's how they respond in an emergency that matters.
Would we use 4 X 4 Uganda again?

We booked a Toyota TX Prado with a rooftop tent including all the camping gear needed. Joseph was very friendly and made it really convenient to plan the trip, always replying in no time. The car delivery was smooth so was the return. We had no problems or difficulties during our trip, the car brought us safely through all kinds of terrain. If you need pillows for sleeping, bring some for yourselves. We used one sleeping bag as a pillow and the other one as a blanket. Price in March 2022 was 85$ per day. We can highly recommend this rental company.

We had a great trip with 4x4 Uganda. We did a 11 day version of the 12 day self drive missing the white water rafting day.
Communication with Joseph was excellent, we booked a pop top 4x4 Prado, accommodation and chimp/ gorilla permits through 4x4 Uganda and everything was organised perfectly. He was very knowledgeable about the best accommodation and activity options and put together a great trip that fit in with our itinerary.
The Prado we hired was a bit tired cosmetically and had had a tough life, but all the essentials worked perfectly and we had no problems during the trip. Near new off road tires all round made easy work of the mainly gravel roads around the country and the exciting mud holes in the various parks.
A very honest, knowledgeable tourism provider that I would recommend to anyone travelling in Uganda!

We rented a 4x4 V8 with rooftoptent for 6 weeks and travelled through 4 east African countries. They dropped the car at our hotel in Entebbe. The car was a bit older (2002) and had done quite some kilometers but it was neatly and solid, we even had Apple carplay which was useful to put navigation on. The car also had good tires, and we had some rough terrains which was no problem with the car. We had no issues with the car. The camping gear was complete. When we had questions, communication was smooth and quick. If you cross borders at well-known borders, they can also send someone to help you with the bordercrossing. At our final destination (Nairobi), they also picked up the car at our hotel. We were pleased with the car and service.

We booked a car with driver guide for 10 days with 4x4 Uganda. We clarified everything with Joseph in advance, who answered every question, organised the permits for gorillas and chimpanzees without any problems and sent us an invoice and receipt for everything.
Our guide Dan was excellent, he picked us up on time at the airport and explained everything about the animals, regions and culture of Uganda. He is a super driver who knows his way around perfectly so that we arrived everywhere quickly and safely. With his help and his good network, we were able to see everything Uganda has to offer in terms of wildlife.
We would definitely recommend booking with 4x4 Uganda and choosing Dan as guide.

As a solo female traveler and first time adventurer to Africa, I am so thoroughly grateful I chose 4x4 Uganda. The journey was life changing and went above and beyond any expectations I had.
Joseph was so very responsive in communication from the very start, helping to answer all my questions and relieve any concerns.
I ended up with the MOST incredible guide Ronnie. It felt like we had been friends forever. He helped me plan my itinerary and took me all around his amazing country for 15 days. Ronnie had so many friends and connections ALL around the country (INCLUDING all the safari animals I got to see that he tracked with his Eagle Eye 💕). It truly seemed I had a unique experience everywhere we went. Since I was solo, he even took so many amazing pictures of me throughout the journey. I felt 1000x safe with him, Ugandans and the beautiful country.
The Toyota Prado we drove was perfect. I called it “The Green Machine”, and it handled the roads perfectly throughout rain, mud, and all the sunshine.
I will be forever grateful for Ronnie’s immense experience, knowledge and friendship we built in such an adventure.
